High school roundup for April 29, 2019: Neshannock edges No. 1 Shenango

Preston Turk registered the game-winning two-out, two-run double in the fifth inning, and Matt DuBois closed out the contest on the hill to give Neshannock an 8-7 win over Class 2A No. 1 Shenango in a Section 2-2A baseball game Monday.
DuBois got the win in relief, throwing 2 2/3 innings, allowing no runs and striking out four. DuBois also starred at the plate, reaching base four times, including a two-run double in the Lancers’ four-run first. Kadin Hall had a two-run triple for Neshannock (11-2, 7-1), which moves a half game out of first place in the section.
Ryan Perretti had a two-run double for Shenango (14-2, 8-1), which saw its 12-game winning streak snapped on the road.
Pine-Richland 9, Central Catholic 1 — Chase Vrabel was 2 for 4 with three RBIs as No. 2 Pine-Richland (11-3, 6-0) won in Section 1-6A.
Hampton 5, Shaler 3 — Cameron Marshalwitz and Max Smith each had three hits and an RBI as No. 3 Hampton (9-5, 6-1) won in Section 2-5A. Brendan Erka knocked in two runs for the Talbots.
South Fayette 6, Mars 5 (8 inn.) — Tyler Sharp hit a slow roller that scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth as South Fayette (10-4, 4-3) knocked off No. 5 Mars (9-5, 4-3) in Section 2-5A. Shane Fox had three RBIs for the Planets.
Quaker Valley 10, New Castle 0 (5 inn.) — Christian Johnson threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as Quaker Valley (9-4, 4-4) won in Section 2-4A. Johnson also had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.
Ringgold 6, Thomas Jefferson 5 (10 inn.) — Travis Drusbasky’s suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 10th gave Ringgold (10-3, 9-1) a Section 3-4A victory. Bob Boyer had two RBIs for the Rams.
South Park 8, Uniontown 0 — Brendan Gray threw a three-hitter with 16 strikeouts to lead South Park (10-5, 6-4) to a Section 3-4A win. Kevin Vaupel homered for the Eagles.
Hopewell 6, Shady Side Academy 3 — Tyler Beck was 2 for 4 with an RBI to help No. 2 Hopewell (10-4, 8-1) win a Section 2-3A game.
Avonworth 3, OLSH 2 — Turner Grau homered and Tim Stewart hit a two-run double as No. 4 Avonworth (11-3, 7-1) won a Section 4-2A game.
Hempfield 7, Penn-Trafford 6 — The Spartans scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and upset No. 1 Penn-Trafford in a Section 2-6A game.
Mitch Miletics hit a two-run single to tie the score, and Reed Hipps followed with a two-run single to give the Spartans (8-8, 3-4) a 7-5 lead.
Penn-Trafford (12-2, 5-2) added a run in the top of the seventh but fell short of the equalizer.
Hipps had two hits and three RBIs, and Mike Hosni had two hits and an RBI for Hempfield. Bobby Lane knocked in two runs for the Warriors.
Norwin 11, Connellsville 4 — Owen Sabol was 4 for 4 with a home run, and Aidan Shephard, Derek Turkovski and Jacob Kendro also homered to lead Norwin (9-4, 3-3) to a Section 2-6A win.
Plum 5, Latrobe 0 — Brady Simmons and Chandler Yocca each knocked in runs to help Plum (7-9, 3-4) earn a Section 2-6A victory. Jared Hoener tossed a three-hitter with four strikeouts. Donny Shimko doubled for the Wildcats (7-7, 2-4).
Franklin Regional 9, Kiski Area 1 — Winning pitcher Andrew Muraco was 2 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs to lead No. 2 Franklin Regional (10-2, 7-1) to a Section 1-5A victory. Mike Klingensmith was 3 for 5 in the win. Garrett Polka was 2 for 4, and Derek Hald knocked in the run for Kiski Area (7-7, 4-4).
Greensburg Salem 4, Derry 1 — Aaren Putt threw a four-hitter with three strikeouts to lift No. 5 Greensburg Salem (10-2, 6-2) to a Section 1-4A victory. Matt Wicker, Jack Oberdorf and Reid Admundson doubled in runs for the Golden Lions. Zack Karaschak and Trey Weinell had two hits apiece for Derry (4-7, 3-6).
Yough 8, Mt. Pleasant 5 — Cody Ulander was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Ray Halahurich knocked in three runs as No. 2 Yough (9-4, 7-1) won a Section 1-4A game. Mike Bell scattered nine hits and had five strikeouts in a complete-game win.
Trevor Mason was 3 for 3 with a double and triple for Mt. Pleasant (6-7, 4-5), which led 4-0 in the third inning.
Waynesburg 9, Southmoreland 3 — Tyler Switalski knocked in two runs as Waynesburg (6-4, 5-3) won in Section 3-3A. Brok Potoka had two RBIs for the Scotties (2-9, 0-7).
Jeannette 3, Brentwood 2 — Seth Howard was 2 for 3 with a double and RBI as Jeannette (8-5, 4-3) won in Section 3-2A. Zander Malik tossed a six-hitter with four strikeouts to record the victory.
Greensburg Central Catholic 4, St. Joseph 0 — Paul Rice doubled and had two RBIs as No. 5 Greensburg Central Catholic won in Section 3-A. Alex Miller had two hits and two RBIs, and Joel LoNigro struck out four in a complete-game effort to pick up the win for the Centurions (6-7, 5-1). Joe Godinez and Dom Fellowes had two hits each for St. Joseph (3-6, 1-4).
Springdale 4, Clairton 2 — Issac Kern pitched 6 2⁄3 innings and struck out 12 to lead Springdale (2-9, 1-6) to its first Section 3-A win in two years in a victory over Clairton (1-6, 1-4).
Freeport 7, Valley 1 — Austin Kepes, Joseph Hotalski, Zachary Allen and Matt Grove contributed two hits apiece to help Class 3A No. 4 Freeport (9-5, 6-2) earn a Section 1 victory at Valley (3-6, 3-6). Kepes doubled and Hotalski drove in two runs.
Fox Chapel 8, Woodland Hills 5 — Fox Chapel (7-4, 5-3) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning on its way to a Section 1-5A victory over Woodland Hills. (0-9, 0-7). Alex McRandal singled twice and drove
Knoch 13, Indiana 1 (5 inn.) — Ethan Sloane tripled and had three RBIs as the Knights cruised to a Section 1-4A win. Eli Sutton added three RBIs, and Blaze Voltz picked up the win for Knoch (9-4, 5-3).
Burrell 10, East Allegheny 0 (5 inn.) — Luke Virag doubled and drove in two runs as Burrell defeated East Allegheny in Section 1-3A. Tyler Mock doubled and drove in three runs, and Zach Kerr added a double and an RBI for the Bucs (8-3, 5-3).

Canon-McMillan 9, Bethel Park 5 — Taylor Eckles knocked in three runs, and Sydney Senay had three hits to help Canon-McMillan (9-4, 8-3) win a Section 1-6A game.
Peters Township 15, Allderdice 0 (3 inn.) — Kate Hondru threw a no-hitter with four strikeouts and was 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and Alex Bondi had three RBIs as Peters Township (9-7, 7-5) won in Section 1-6A.
North Allegheny 3, Butler 1 — Kristen Chomos had two hits and an RBI to help No. 3 North Allegheny (12-3, 10-2) win in Section 2-6A.

Franklin Regional 4, Albert Gallatin 3 (8 inn.) — Mariah DeRiggi knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead Franklin Regional (9-5, 8-3) to a Section 1-5A win. Kamryn Marcus also doubled in a run for the Panthers.
Latrobe 8, Kiski Area 7 — Lauren Bisignani homered, and Jordan Tallman had three RBIs for Latrobe (11-3, 8-3) in a Section 1-5A victory. Alayna Mintz collected three hits and drove in two for Kiski Area (2-10, 2-10).
Penn-Trafford 12, Armstrong 1 (5 inn.) — Emma Little was 3 for 3 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs as No. 1 Penn-Trafford (13-0, 11-0) won in Section 1-5A. Morgan Nedley had two hits and two RBIs, and Emma Armstrong and Carlee Lamacz each knocked in a run. Morgan Hilty threw a two-hitter for the win.
Greensburg Salem 7, Highlands 2 — Sydney Tressler had a double and RBI in Greensburg Salem’s Section 1-4A win. Rena Caruso struck out six to pick up the win for Greensburg Salem (5-8, 3-5). Morgan Oravitz had an RBI double for Highlands (4-6, 3-5).
Freeport 11, Derry 0 (5 inn.) — Natalie King homered, and Tori Radvan allowed one hit over five innings with six strikeouts for Freeport (8-2, 6-2) in a Section 1-3A win at Derry (3-9, 3-6). Ally DeJidas tripled, and Gabriella Franchock Emily Schmidt doubled for the Yellowjackets. Carissa Bateman doubled for Derry.
South Park 7, Southmoreland 3 — Kristen Mesick was 2 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBIs as South Park (10-3, 7-2) won in Section 3-3A. Abby Fullem homered for Southmoreland (7-4, 6-4).
Monessen 6, Mapletown 5 — Kendelle Weston was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Mattie Telegraphis was 3 for 3 as Monessen (3-8, 3-5) won in Section 2-A. Sasha Kenney added two RBIs, and Hannah Yorty struck out 11 in the win.
Springdale 13, Greensburg Central Catholic 3 (5 inn.) — Class A No. 3 Springdale plated 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn a Section 3 win over Greensburg Central Catholic (4-8, 4-4). Natalie Woitas singled, tripled and had four RBIs for the Dynamos (7-1, 4-1), and Alexis Hrivnak had two hits, drove in three runs and pitched five innings with eight strikeouts. Anna Vitale had two hits and an RBI for GCC.
St. Joseph 5, Jeannette 2 — Ava Swanson and Stella Swanson had two hits apiece for St. Joseph (4-3, 4-3) in a Section 3-A win. Faith Johnston had two hits for Jeannette (6-4, 5-4).
Ligonier Valley 13, North Star 0 (5 inn.) — Jane Garver knocked in three runs and threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Ligonier Valley (12-0) won a nonconference game. Courtney McKlveen knocked in two runs in the win.
Riverview 13, Shady Side Academy 9 — Aided by a seven-run third inning, the Raiders (5-4, 4-4) topped the Indians (2-6, 2-6) in a Section 2-2A matchup. Anne Betler doubled and drove in four runs for Riverview, and Alivia Schulteis doubled and tripled. Lizzy Lekovitch knocked in three runs, and Miya Tominello tallied two RBIs. Alyssa Cappa struck out 11 in the complete-game victory.
Plum 15, Oakland Catholic 0 (4 inn.) — Melanie Meinke pitched a four inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts, and Jillian Durst doubled, tripled and had a solo homer for Class 5A No. 5 Plum (11-2, 10-1) in a Section 2 win over Oakland Catholic (1-8, 1-8). Gabby Fischetti had three hits, including a home run and four RBIs. Chloe Fabio and MacKenzie Lake had a pair of hits and RBIs each.
Knoch 5, Central Valley 0 — Erin Luffy hit a three-run homer as No. 3 Knoch cruised past Central Valley in Section 3-4A. Marissa Melius, Monica Gourley and Amanda Fischer each had two hits for the Knights. Fischer struck out seven to earn the win for Knoch (12-1, 8-0).
