High school roundup for April 7, 2024: Norwin softball walks off Baldwin

Norwin staged a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Baldwin, 4-3, in Section 1-6A softball Sunday afternoon.

With one out, Kyla Coyne hit a game-tying home run, Bailey Snowberger doubled, and Diem Wardzinski delivered an RBI double to lift the Knights (3-3, 2-2) to a walk-off win.

Josey Michaelski also homered for Norwin. Coyne, Wardzinski and Snowberger finished with two hits.

Jordan Gerendash homered and Reese Temme had a double and a triple for the Highlanders (1-3, 0-2).

Baseball

Hopewell 15, Beaver 5 – Logan Triscila had two hits and three RBIs and Drew Donovan delivered two hits and an RBI to lead Hopewell (5-2, 2-0) to a Section 1-4A win. Kingston Krotec and Charles Smetana also drove in runs for the Vikings. Maddox Tanner doubled, tripled and plated a pair and Ty Butler had two hits and two RBIs for Beaver (4-4, 0-2).

Norwin 1, Baldwin 0; Norwin 10, Baldwin 4 – Norwin (4-2, 2-0) swept Baldwin (1-5, 0-3) in a Section 2-6A doubleheader.

In the first game, Nolan Ryan walked and scored on Ben Geissler’s walk-off RBI single, his second hit of the day. Ethen Culbertson pitched 6 ⅔ scoreless innings and Matt Rivera recorded the final out to earn the win.

In the second game, Nate Silberman had two hits and an RBI and Keegan Carr had a hit and two RBIs for the Knights. Trey Alario hit a three-run homer for the Highlanders.

Pine-Richland 9, Butler 1; Butler 8, Pine-Richland 4 – Pine-Richland (5-2, 1-1) and Butler (3-2, 1-1) split a Section 1-6A doubleheader.

In the Rams victory, Jake Waddell homered and drove in a pair, Logan Plummer had two doubles and an RBI, and Ryan Grebinsoku had two hits and an RBI. Keegan Diehl struck out 10 in six scoreless innings. Boden Lenyk singled and doubled for Butler.

In the Golden Tornado win, Lenyk doubled twice, Carson Bish had two hits and two RBIs, Andrew Lucas tripled and Nolan Stefaniak doubled. Anthony Annichine singled and tripled and Logan Plummer drove in two runs for Pine-Richland.

West Mifflin 5, Elizabeth Forward 0 – Winning pitcher Zane Griffaton went 3 for 4 with three doubles and an RBI to power West Mifflin to a Section 3-4A victory. Jayvon Thompson and Nate Fleming each had two hits for the Titans (6-1, 2-0). AJ Grese singled and doubled for Elizabeth Forward (3-2, 0-2).
