High school roundup for Feb. 26, 2024: North Allegheny beats Peters Township for spot in 6A finals

Lydia Betz led all scorers with 21 points as No. 3 North Allegheny knocked off No. 2 Peters Township, 43-30, in the WPIAL Class 6A girls basketball semifinals Monday night.
Grace Heliger scored eight points and Kellie McConnell added seven for the Tigers (22-2), who will meet Norwin for the third time this season in the WPIAL finals at 7 p.m. Friday at Petersen Events Center. Natalie Wetzel led Peters Township (22-2) with nine points.
Bishop Canevin 46, Eden Christian 34 – Julianna Umalin made six 3-pointers and had 21 points to boost No. 6 Bishop Canevin (8-14) past No. 10 Eden Christian (9-15) in a Class A consolation game. Amari Elliott and Isabella Sysak each added eight points for the Crusaders. Emmie Smith led the Warriors with 14 points and Allie Emswiler netted nine. Bishop Canevin will play No. 5 Monessen for fifth place Wednesday night with a PIAA playoff berth on the line.
Highlands 62, Greensburg Salem 36 – Katelyn Myers sank six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points, Jocelyn Bielak hit for 12 and Tyarah Woody had 11 as No. 4 Highlands (17-7) bested No. 8 Greensburg Salem (16-9) in a Class 4A consolation game to earn a spot in the state playoffs. Ashlan Price tallied 14 points for the Golden Lions. Highlands will play No. 6 Knoch for fifth place Thursday night.
Knoch 60, Central Valley 40 – Adah Fuller put up 28 points and Karlee Butterbaugh added 16 as No. 6 Knoch (15-10) expanded on a 25-10 halftime lead to beat No. 7 Central Valley (13-12) in a Class 4A consolation game and qualify for the PIAA playoffs for the third straight season. Isabella Miller led the Warriors with nine points. Knoch will battle No. 4 Highlands for fifth place Thursday night.
Lincoln Park 76, North Hills 57 – Maddie Syka put up 38 points, J’La Kizart added 15 and Sarah Scott followed with 12 as No. 4 Lincoln Park (22-3) defeated No. 8 North Hills (14-10) in a Class 5A consolation game to secure a PIAA playoff berth. Gianna Sturdivant scored 20 points, Olivia Waters chipped in with 17 and Gia Minton had 15 for North Hills. Lincoln Park takes on No. 3 Trinity for fifth place Thursday night. North Hills meets No. 7 Indiana for seventh place with a PIAA playoff spot on the line.
Trinity 56, Indiana 39 – In a Class 5A consolation game, Ruby Morgan buried four 3-pointers and tallied 12 points while Riley Corrins and Macie Justice scored nine points apiece as No. 3 Trinity (19-6) beat No. 7 Indiana (18-7) to clinch a PIAA playoff spot. Maddy Roberts added eighth points for the Hillers, who will play No. 4 Lincoln Park for fifth place Thursday night. Bella Antonacci scored 15 points and Julia Antonacci produced nine for the Little Indians, who will take on No. 8 North Hills for seventh place and a spot in the PIAA field.
Boys basketball
Bishop Canevin 68, Serra Catholic 35 – Drew Allen scored 18 points and Raukeem Hawkins added 14 as No. 5 Bishop Canevin (14-11) clinched a PIAA playoff berth with a Class 2A first-round consolation win. The Crusaders will meet No. 6 Jeannette for fifth place Thursday. Owen Dumbrowski scored 10 for No. 8 Serra Catholic (16-9), which will meet No. 10 Eden Christian for seventh place and a spot in the state tournament.
Jeannette 73, Eden Christian 65 – Kymone Brown dropped 14 points, Jayce Powell hit for 13 and Markus McGowan added 12 as No. 6 Jeannette (17-8) beat No. 10 Eden Christian (13-12) in a Class 2A consolation game to secure a state playoff bid. Nathan Garrett led all scorers with 31 points and Grayson Reichart finished with 12 for the Warriors. The Jayhawks will play No. 5 Bishop Canevin on Thursday for fifth place. Eden Christian will meet No. 8 Serra Catholic for seventh place with a PIAA berth on the line.
Hockey
Burrell 10, Sewickley Academy 0 – John Lukac had two goals and two assists and Jared Wall and Mike Morazczyk each added a pair of goals to lead Burrell (15-3) past Sewickley Academy (0-18-1) in Varsity D2. Luke Mink added a goal and two assists.
Deer Lakes 8, Elizabeth Forward 1 – RJ Noullet had three goals and two assists and Ryan Grunden scored twice to lead Deer Lakes (12-6-1) to a Varsity D2 win. Eliot Belli, Carter Catalano and Mason Cervone also scored for the Lancers. Josh Hill scored for Elizabeth Forward (9-9).
Fox Chapel 5, Franklin Regional 2 – Hayden Ferra, Tucker Cullen, Dom Casile, Nate Sarra and Killian Kissane scored as Fox Chapel (11-8-1) beat Franklin Regional (10-8-3) in Class 2A. Shawn Sinclair and Max Rutkowski scored for the Panthers.
North Hills 4, Penn-Trafford 1 – Jonathan Trosky scored a pair of goals while Dillon Cobaugh and Joey Spivak each added a goal as North Hills (1-19) got its first win of the year. Aiden Dratos scored the lone goal for Penn-Trafford (7-9-4). AJ Urbanek stopped 39 shots for the Indians.
Peters Township 1, Seneca Valley 0 – John Ripepi scored the only goal and Kyle Thomas made 45 saves as Peters Township (14-4-2) shut out Seneca Valley (15-5) in Class 3A.
Pine-Richland 5, Bethel Park 3 – Jeremy Casper scored to break a 3-3 tie with 6:12 to go and Zachary Howard and Carson Verszyla each scored twice to lead Pine-Richland (14-4-1) to a Class 3A win. Will Alborg and Ethan Cooley each had a goal and two assists for Bethel Park (9-9-1).
