High school roundup for Jan. 19, 2024: Gemma Walker scores 1,000th point as Peters Township fends off Bethel Park in OT

Gemma Walker scored 22 points, hitting the 1,000-point mark for her career, to lead Peters Township to a 59-55 overtime victory over Bethel Park, fending off an upset bid in Section 2-6A girls basketball Friday night.

Natalie Wetzel scored a game-high 26 for Peters Township (16-0, 7-0). Sadie Orie scored 21 and Ella Harmon added 10 for Bethel Park (4-11, 1-6).

Penn-Trafford 57, Franklin Regional 38 – Hanna Weishaar scored 19 points and Olivia Pepple added 12 to lead Penn-Trafford to a nonsection victory. The Warriors (10-5) jumped out to a 17-9 lead after one quarter. Olivia Orndorff led Franklin Regional (3-13) with 14 points.

Boys basketball

Central Valley 70, Carlynton 37 – Gabriel Raso scored 12 points and Mikel Anderson added 10 as Central Valley (8-5) picked up a nonsection win. Jayden McKnight scored 11 and Devonte Dean added 10 for Carlynton (3-10).

Lincoln Park 88, Beaver 38 – Brandon Cummings hit six 3-pointers and scored 32 points to lead Lincoln Park (12-3, 6-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Meleek Thomas added 19 and Vinnie DePaula had 11, including three 3-pointers. Brady Mayo led Beaver (7-9, 3-4) with 17 points. Ty Butler had 10.

Neshannock 84, Freedom 26 – Matt Sopko scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures for Neshannock (13-2, 6-1) in a Section 1-3A win. Jake Rynd added 16, David Kwiat 15 and Anthony Bonner 10. Logan Bickerstaff led Freedom (0-14, 0-6) with 12 points.

Peters Township 62, Mt. Lebanon 54 – Sean Thelk hit four 3-pointers to account for his 12 points and Nate Miller, Cam Mills and Jack Dunbar added 11 points apiece as Peters Township (11-4) picked up a nonsection win. Riley Farabaugh scored 14 and Nate Girod had 13 for Mt. Lebanon (12-3).

South Fayette 66, Avonworth 56 – Michael Plasko hit for 27 points to spark South Fayette (9-6) in a nonsection win. Nate Deanes added 12 and Noah Knox finished with 10. Rowan Carmichaels led Avonworth (10-4) with 28 points.

Sto-Rox 48, Keystone Oaks 47 – Marcus Griffin scored 17 points and David Johnson added 14 to power Sto-Rox (4-9, 2-4) to a Section 2-3A victory. Erond Jakupi scored 19 points and Ethan Spivak added 10 for Keystone Oaks (4-11, 3-4).

Waynesburg 56, Charleroi 44 – Dane Woods had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Alex Eck added 12 points to help Waynesburg (3-10, 1-5) to a Section 4-3A victory. Bryce Large scored 18 points and Jackson Keranko added 13 for Charleroi (6-10, 2-5).
