High school roundup for June 4, 2024: North Allegheny boys lacrosse wins OT thriller

Nick Sichak completed his hat trick with the game winner out of a net-front scramble 48 seconds into overtime to lift WPIAL runner-up North Allegheny to a 9-8 victory over District 3 champ Wilson West Lawn in the PIAA Class 3A boys lacrosse first round Tuesday.
Cohen Renninger scored with three seconds left for Wilson (14-4) to force overtime. Sam Porter had two goals and Jonathan Castillo, Travis Lamark and Evan Lyon also scored for North Allegheny (15-8), which will meet Radnor in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Mars 19, Hershey 3 – The two-time defending PIAA finalist Fightin’ Planets (18-3) took care of Hershey (15-7) in the Class 2A first round. Mars will take on District 12 champ Devon Prep (17-5) in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Mt. Lebanon 21, McDowell 1 – The WPIAL champion Blue Devils (18-4) rolled past District 10 champion McDowell (6-13) in the Class 3A first round. Mt. Lebanon will meet District 1 champ Garnet Valley (19-3) in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Camp Hill Trinity 8, Hampton 6 – District 3 champion Trinity (21-0) got past Hampton (12-8) in the Class 2A first round. Trinity will meet WPIAL runner-up South Fayette (20-2) in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Girls lacrosse
Manheim Township 21, Pine-Richland 5 – Elliana Romano scored four goals and Liv Parmer and Liv Young added three goals each as District 3 champ Manheim Township (17-1) defeated Pine-Richland (16-4-1) in the Class 3A first round. Manheim Township will meet Downingtown West (22-1) in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Mars 11, Camp Hill Trinity 9 – The WPIAL champion Fightin’ Planets (15-6) beat Camp Hill Trinity (16-7) in the Class 2A first round. Mars will meet District 2 runner-up Villa Maria Academy (17-6) in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Mt. Lebanon 18, McDowell 2 – The WPIAL champion Blue Devils (20-0) stayed undefeated with a dominant win over District 10 champion McDowell (9-8). Mt. Lebanon will face District 1 runner-up Conestoga (18-4) in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Twin Valley 17, Penn-Trafford 2 – Ellie Kaplan scored four goals and Kylie Duke, Amelia Wood and Anna Givens had hat tricks as District 3 champion Twin Valley defeated Penn-Trafford in the PIAA Class 2A first round. Twin Valley (17-5) will meet WPIAL runner-up Chartiers Valley in the quarterfinals Saturday. Penn-Trafford ends its season at 17-4.
Boys volleyball
Lower Dauphin 3, Obama Academy 0 – Lower Dauphin (19-2) swept City League champ Obama Academy (14-2), 25-18, 25-12, 25-18, in the Class 2A first round. Lower Dauphin will face District 10 champ Meadville in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Mars 3, Saegertown 0 – WPIAL champion Mars (21-0) rolled past Saegertown (14-4) in three sets, 25-14, 25-14, 25-19, in the Class 2A first round. The Fightin’ Planets will take on District 6 champ West Shamokin (16-1) in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Meadville 3, Armstrong 0 – Meadville (18-0) eliminated Armstrong (10-10) in straight sets 25-15, 25-10, 25-8 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Shaler 3, Carlisle 0 – The WPIAL champion Titans rolled in straight sets, 25-10, 25-16, 25-20, in a Class 3A first-round win over Carlisle (15-6). Shaler (17-1) advanced to play State College in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
State College 3, Seneca Valley 1 – The Raiders (15-8) were eliminated, 25-22, 25-11, 21-25, 25-21 by State College (10-4) in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Warwick 3, North Allegheny 1 – Will Robertson had 17 kills and Parker Bratich contributed 15 kills, but North Allegheny (13-3) fell to District 3 runner up Warwick (14-3) in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. The Tigers took the third set 25-20, but Warwick clinched the match with a 27-25 win in the fourth.
West Shamokin 3, Ambridge 1 – Ambridge (14-5) took the first set, 26-24, but West Shamokin (16-1) rallied to win the next three 25-15, 26-24, 25-19 to earn a win in the Class 2A first round. The Wolves advanced to play WPIAL champ Mars in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
