High school roundup for May 4, 2019: Montour tops Chartiers Valley

Gannon Kadlecik went 3 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs as Montour defeated Chartiers Valley, 7-3, in a Section 3-5A baseball game Saturday.

Ryan Gallagher pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts for the Spartans (11-7, 7-3). Anthony Collura and Will Kinhington each drove in a run for the Colts (3-12, 3-7).

Belle Vernon 3, Trinity 2 — Andrew Sokol gave up six hits and two runs over six innings as Belle Vernon (9-5) beat Trinity (8-9) in nonsection play. Sokol was also 2 for 4 at the plate. Forrest Havanis went 3 for 4 with an RBI for Trinity.

Connellsville 6, Albert Gallatin 4 — Both D.J. Farkas and Timothy Hough drove in two runs as Connellsville (8-5) scored five combined runs in the second and third en route to a nonsection victory over Albert Gallatin (4-9). Kade Musgrove and Tanner Orndorff each doubled for the Falcons.

Blake Reda doubled for the Colonials. Jarett Cope recorded the win with a strikeout, three walks and two runs allowed in 2 2/3 innings.

Freeport 3, Steel Valley 0 — Jarrett Heilman threw seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts for Freeport (11-5, 8-2) as he held Steel Valley (9-7, 8-3) batters to just three hits in Section 1-3A action. Zachary Allen had a double and RBI for the Yellowjackets.

Homer-Center 3, Derry 2 — Jayke Saiani tripled in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Homer-Center (12-5) defeated Derry (5-9) in nonsection play. Canyon Rankin struck out two and gave up five hits in the complete game win. Paul Koontz picked up the loss, striking out six and giving up two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Derry 5, Blacklick Valley 4 — Josh Ulery’s two RBIs for Derry (6-9) helped the Trojans score five unanswered runs after trailing 4-0 in the second for the come-from-behind victory. Josh Little doubled, homered and drove in four runs for Blacklick Valley (11-5). Nick Detore recorded the win for the Trojans, pitching a scoreless 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.
