High school roundup for Oct. 14, 2023: Olszewski, Carter spark Bishop Canevin

Kole Olszewski was 9 for 11 for 107 yards and four touchdowns and Marquis Carter scored on runs of 90 and 35 yards to lead Bishop Canevin to a 62-0 victory over Chartiers-Houston (0-8, 0-5) in Class A Black Hills Conference football Saturday night.

Olszewski connected on TD passes of 46 yards to Henry Babisch, 6 yards to Jason Cross, 11 yards to Az’Juan Marshall and 5 yards to Daiveon Taylor for the Crusaders (6-1, 4-1).

Shenango 37, Summit Academy 8 – Colton Fedrizzi caught four passes for 98 yards and three touchdowns as Shenango (4-4, 2-3) beat Summit Academy (0-7, 0-3) in the Class A Big 7 Conference. Shenango recorded five sacks as it held Summit Academy to 98 total yards. Kye’mre Robinson threw for 37 yards and ran for 65 yards for Summit Academy.

Boys soccer

Bentworth 8, Uniontown 1 – Ryan Colbert scored four goals as Bentworth (14-2) beat Uniontown (5-14) in nonsection play. Ryan Moessner contributed three assists.

Mt. Pleasant 4, Kiski Area 1 – Luke Rivardo’s hat trick powered Mt. Pleasant (13-3) to a nonsection win. Tyler Wadsworth also scored and Ryan Karfelt and Aden Geary handed out assists. Austin Beck scored for Kiski Area (3-11-1).

Shady Side Academy 19, Leechburg 0 – Amir Awais scored five goals and Dane Thomas added three goals as Shady Side Academy (12-3-1, 11-2-1) shut out Leechburg (0-15, 0-14) in Section 2-2A.

Trinity 3, McGuffey 0 – Goalkeeper Ryan Torboli posted the clean sheet as Trinity (9-5-1) shut out McGuffey (12-5) in nonsection play. Cooper Cincinnati, Faiden Hodgson and Braeden Knight tallied goals for Trinity.

Girls soccer

Bethel Park 2, South Park 1 – River Hendrych-Bondra scored a pair of goals to lead Bethel Park (9-6-1) to a nonsection win. Ari Beck scored for South Park (12-4).

Elizabeth Forward 7, Uniontown 0 – Brooklyn Baldensperger and Maicee Smith scored twice and Adysson Davis and Samantha Malek combined on the shutout for Elizabeth Forward (12-3, 11-2) in a Section 2-3A win over Uniontown (4-13, 1-12). Mia Valerio, Taylor Snyder and Giovanna Ferarro also scored.

Freeport 7, Indiana 0 – Camryn Woods and Peyton Los recorded hat tricks to lead Freeport (12-1-1) to a nonsection win over Indiana (4-11). Samantha Liput also scored for the Yellowjackets and Alyssa Alcorn and Macey Edwards combined on the shutout.

Greensburg Central Catholic 4, Springdale 1 – Jiana Patterson had two goals and one assist while Riley Kerr added two goals as Greensburg Central Catholic (9-2, 9-2) defeated Springdale (11-2, 9-2) in Section 1-A. Leah Jones recorded seven saves in net for the Centurions. Brianna Ross scored the only goal for Springdale, which had its five-game winning streak snapped, a span where it outscored its opponents, 30-0.

Trinity 5, McGuffey 0 – Cassidy Arthur and Abby Higgins each had two goals and Ruby Morgan also scored to lead Trinity (1-13) past McGuffey (3-10-1) in a nonsection game.
