Paloma Swankler scored two first half goals to lead No. 3 Norwin (1-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-4A girls soccer victory over Hempfield (0-1, 0-1) on Wednesday.

Dani Iannuzzo and Katelyn Kauffman scored in the second half for the Knights. Megan Dietz had two assists. Liz Waszkiewicz recorded the shutout.

Penn-Trafford 5, Allderdice 0 — Emma Rain and Malia Kearns each scored a pair of goals to lead Penn-Trafford (1-1, 1-0) past Allderdice (1-2, 0-1) in Section 3-4A. Sarah Nguyen scored for Penn Trafford. Megan Giesey recorded the shutout.

Connellsville 9, Latrobe 0 — Connellsville (3-0, 1-0) recorded shutout victory over Latrobe (1-2, 0-1) in Section 3-4A.

Peters Township 2, Bethel Park 0 — Cece Scott had a goal and an assist to lead No. 1 Peters Township (3-0, 1-0) past Bethel Park (2-1, 0-1) in a Section 2-4A opener. Jillian Marvin also scored.

Fox Chapel 3, Butler 2 (2 OT) — Lucy Ream completed a hat trick with a goal in double overtime that propelled Fox Chapel (2-0, 1-0) to a Section 1-4A win over Butler (2-1, 0-1).

Indiana 3, Franklin Regional 2 — Hannah Scardina had a hat trick to lift Indiana (3-1, 1-0) past Franklin Regional (1-1, 0-1) in Section 1-3A play.

Belle Vernon 12, Uniontown 0 — Jillian Butchki had four goals and an assist to power No. 3 Belle Vernon (2-1, 1-0) to a Section 2-3A win over Uniontown (0-3, 0-1). Morgan Einodshofer had two goals and four assists, Izzy Laurita scored twice, and Farrah Reader added a goal and an assist.

Laurel Highlands 3, Greensburg Salem 1 — Maddy Meloda scored for Greensburg Salem (0-1, 0-1) in a Section 1-3A loss to Laurel Highlands (1-1, 1-0).

Kiski Area 13, Knoch 0 — Kaylee Ellwood scored four times as Kiski Area (1-0, 1-0) earned a Section1-3A win over Knoch (0-1, 0-1). Riley Kofiatek, Emerson Johngarlo and Reagan Frederick scored two goals apiece.

Freeport 6, Highlands 0 — Sidney Shemanski recorded a hat trick and two assists to help Freeport (1-0, 1-0) cruise to a Section 2-2A victory over Highlands (0-3, 0-1).

Southmoreland 4, Mt. Pleasant 1 — Southmoreland (1-0, 1-0) defeated Mt. Pleasant (1-1, 0-1) in Section 3-2A.

Yough 6, Waynesburg 1 — Yough (2-0, 1-0) rolled past Waynesburg (0-1, 0-1) in Section 3-2A.

Burrell 10, East Allegheny 0 — Allie Vescio recorded a hat trick and Danika Johnson and Jordyn Kowalkowski recorded a pair of goals each as Burrell rolled to a Section 2-aA win at East Allegheny (0-1, 0-1). Bella Galister, Danica Stone and Jaden Smalling scored one goal apiece for the Bucs.

Deer Lakes 5, Valley 1 — Madeline Boulos had a hat trick for Deer Lakes (2-0, 1-0) in a Section 2-2A victory at Valley (0-1, 0-1). Lily Litrun and Abby Boulos added one goal each for the Lancers. Natalie Beckes scored for the Vikings.

Greensburg Central Catholic 10, Springdale 0 — No. 1 Greensburg Central Catholic (2-0, 1-0) shut out Springdale (0-1, 0-1) in Section-1A.

Serra Catholic 8, Riverview 1 — Francesca Lio scored the lone goal for Riverview (0-3, 0-1) in a Section 1-A loss to Serra Catholic (2-0, 1-0).

Chartiers-Houston 7, Monessen 1 — Chartiers-Houston (2-1, 1-0) secured a Section 2-A victory over Monessen (0-3, 0-1).

Boys golf

Hempfield 200, Greensburg Salem 215 — Jon Kebe shot a 36 to lead Hempfield (3-2) past Greensburg Salem (3-4, 1-3) in Section 1-AAA. Nik Suchko and Anthony Rendulich shot 39 for Hempfield.

Norwin 197, Penn-Trafford 205 — Sal Cerelli shot a 35 and Logan Divald a 36 to help Norwin to a Section 1-AAA win over Penn-Trafford.

Fox Chapel 192, Franklin Regional 192 — Chuck Tragesser shot a 31 to claim medalist honors but Franklin Regional lost a Section 4-AAA match to Fox Chapel by two strokes in a playoff. Scott Bitar led Fox Chapel with a 36.

Mt. Pleasant 232, Greensburg Central Catholic 235 — Tim Pisula shot a 40 to help Mt. Pleasant (6-0, 6-0) stay undefeated with a Section 2-AA victory over Greensburg Central Catholic (4-4, 4-2). Ben Ritenour led the Centurions with a 42.

Belle Vernon 213, Thomas Jefferson 219 — Jake Caldwell shot a 38 to claim medalist honors as Belle Vernon (7-1, 6-0) defeated Thomas Jefferson (6-2, 6-1) in Section 2-AAA.

Ligonier Valley 206, Central Cambria 230 — Jon Rankin and Ryan Jones shot 39 to help Ligonier Valley (8-0, 7-0) stay undefeated with a Heritage Conference victory. Central Cambria’s Brian Walwro was the medalist, shooting a 38.

Plum 236, Gateway 257 – Connor Hutchinson was the medalist with a round of 41 to lead the Mustangs to a Section 4-AAA victory at Willowbrook Country Club.

Riverview 217, St. Joseph 285 — Dan Panatucci shot a 5-over 41 at River Forest as the Raiders defeated the Spartans in a Section 1-AA matchup.

Mars 223, Knoch 229 – Ethan Ellis shot 42 for Knoch (3-5, 2-4), which fell to Mars in a Section 8-AAA match at Rittswood Golf Course.

North Catholic 220, Deer Lakes 234 — Will Meyer carded a 42 for Deer Lakes (3-2), which dropped a Section 3-AA match with North Catholic (5-0) at Pittsburgh National Golf Club.

Kiski 214, Highlands 281 — Sean Adamski and Cambell Curry led the way for the Cavaliers by carding a five-over-par 41 at Saxon Golf Course as Kiski defeated Highlands. All five scorers for the Cavaliers scored under the top scorer for Highlands in the victory. Michael Magdinec led the way for the Golden rams by shooting a 47.

Cross country

Quad County Warmup — The Freeport boys cross country team got top 10 finishes from four of its five runners on the way to a convincing victory.

Jacob Schaeffer was the only Yellowjacket to clock a time under 20-minutes, finishing with a 19:35, but Blair Beck, Sam Kristine and Benjamin Perka all finished under 21 minutes to secure the victory for Freeport. CJ Thimons from Highlands was the top finisher at 19:08 and teammate Bryce Eddie placed third with a 20:13 finish.

Deer Lakes squeaked out a close in the girls race, edging out Freeport by three points. Although they didn’t have a finisher in the top two, the Lancers had six runners place in the top 10.

Sonnet Robertson clocked a 25:47 to lead the way, and Jessica Windows and Marleen Meyers placed fourth and fifth with times of 27:44 and 27:53 respectively.

Freeport’s Anita Bhat and Maggie Hollobaugh finished 1-2, with times of 24:24 and 25:03.
