High school roundup: Pine-Richland beats North Allegheny in Game 1 of pivotal series

Peyton Ford went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Pine-Richland survived a late-inning rally to defeat North Allegheny, 10-8, and move into first place in Section 1-6A baseball Monday.

Sam Heckert doubled and Keegan Diehl got the win for the Rams (15-3, 9-1). Owen Schall doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers. Tristan Farrar picked up a save for the Rams.

Allderdice 10, Carrick 9 – Theo Forster hit a walk-off RBI single to lead Allderdice (2-13) to a nonsection win.

Ambridge 5, Hopewell 4 – Nate Thomas doubled and brought home two runs as Adam Fernandez and Naz Thompson each doubled for Ambridge (5-7, 3-6) in Section 1-4A. John Vescio went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs for Hopewell (7-8, 3-6). Joey Pugh got the win and Fernandez picked up a save for the Bridgers.

Avella 11, California 2 – Winning pitcher Bryce Wright struck out 14 in 6⅓ innings to lead Avella (9-3, 8-3) to a Section 1-A win. Isaiah Bradick went 3 for 3 with a double and seven RBIs while Charles Rush drove in three for the Eagles. Chase Cicchitto went 2 for 3 for California (3-11, 2-7).

Avonworth 15, Steel Valley 0 – Cooper Scharding doubled and drove in three runs, Hunter Blackson went 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Aidan Tinker got the win for Avonworth (11-7, 7-2) in a shutout of Steel Valley (3-9, 2-7) in Section 2-3A.

Belle Vernon 4, Latrobe 3 – Adam LaCarte homered in the fourth inning and walked and scored on an error in the 12th to lead Belle Vernon (12-3, 8-1) to a Section 2-4A win. Winning pitcher Parker Lind struck out 15 in 6⅔ innings and Carson Matusik worked a scoreless 12th for the save. Mason Leonard and Cooper Basciano singled and scored for Latrobe (13-2, 8-1).

Bentworth 1, Beth-Center 0 – Lucas Burt struck out 11 in five innings and winning pitcher Jacob Burt fanned four in two innings as they combined on a no-hitter for Bentworth (2-10, 2-8) in a Section 1-2A win over Beth-Center (7-8, 3-6). Sam Wade singled in a run for the Bearcats.

Bethel Park 10, Trinity 1 – Ryan Tierney went 4 for 4 and Santino Diulus pitched a complete-game four-hitter to lead Bethel Park (8-5-1, 6-3) to a Section 2-5A win. Ryan Petras singled, doubled and drove in two runs for the Black Hawks. Matthew Robaugh homered for Trinity (7-6, 5-4).

Bishop Canevin 12, Carlynton 2 – Tyler Maddix struck out nine in five innings for the win and went 3 for 3 at the plate, hitting a triple, double and driving in two runs for Bishop Canevin (10-3, 9-2) in a Section 3-A win. Dom Varley drove in three and Mason Glover knocked in a pair for the Crusaders. Dominic Ciabattoni singled and drove in a run for Carlynton (11-6, 6-3).

Blackhawk 5, Beaver 3 – Grant Landsberry double and drove in two, Cody Woodward doubled and plated a run, Dylan Smith got a win, and Adien Gill picked up a save for Blackhawk (6-7, 4-5) in a Section 1-4A victory. Ty Butler went 2 for 3 for Beaver (6-11, 2-7).

Brentwood 8, Apollo-Ridge 6 – Blake Davis hit a two-run single in the top of the eighth to lead Brentwood (6-8, 2-7) to a Section 3-2A win. Zach Wuenschell went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Spartans. Alexander Clawson, Gage Wingard and Logan Bianco each singled and doubled for Apollo-Ridge (3-11, 2-8).

Burgettstown 11, Washington 0 – Jacob McNabb went 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs while James Leuice and Matt Bredel each knocked in a pair of runs as Burgettstown (6-3-1, 6-1) blanked Washington (6-7, 4-5) in Section 1-2A. Eric Kovach picked up a win for the Blue Devils.

Burrell 4, Deer Lakes 2 – Isaac Lacinski tripled in a run, A.J. McClafferty went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Stephen Hasson got the win for Burrell (8-6, 7-4) in a Section 3-3A matchup. Ryan Cochran went 2 for 3 and knocked in a run for Deer Lakes (5-9, 3-6). Brayden Mell picked up a save for the Bucs.

Central Catholic 9, Canon-McMillan 5 – Adam Sarkis doubled and knocked in three runs, C.J. Proch went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and Carson Pettyjohn picked up the win for Central Catholic (8-9, 5-8) in Section 2-6A. Colin Yeager doubled and drove in two for Canon-McMillan (7-8, 7-6).

Central Valley 3, Montour 1 – Zachary McLean struck out eight and allowed one run in seven innings for Central Valley (9-6, 7-2) in a Section 1-4A win. Zachary Ciamacco went 2 for 2 with an RBI for Montour (12-3, 8-1). Will Ciucci drove in two runs for the Warriors.

Chartiers-Houston 13, Frazier 3 – Justus Buckingham doubled and drove in five runs, Luke Camden brought in two, and Dominic Cumer got the win as Chartiers-Houston (7-7, 7-2) defeated Frazier (4-9, 2-6) in Section 1-2A. Alien Hardy doubled for the Commodores.

Cornell 18, Monessen 0 – CJ Jackson collected four RBIs, Geoffrey Collington went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Tyler Gelzheiser knocked in one as Cornell (3-7, 3-6) cruised to a Section 3-A win. Matt Sawa had the only hit for Monessen (0-13, 0-9). Joshua Mozuch threw three shutout innings for the win.

East Allegheny 4, Shady Side Academy 3 – Tommy Kearns hit a walk-off RBI single for East Allegheny (8-4, 5-4) in a Section 3-3A win over Shady Side Academy (7-5, 6-3).

Eden Christian 7, Quaker Valley 6 – Winning pitcher Caleb Emswiler went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and Charlie Wolf drove in a pair of runs to lead Eden Christian (12-3) past Quaker Valley (4-10) in nonsection play. Todd Kagle doubled and drove in a run for the Quakers.

Elizabeth Forward 12, McKeesport 0 – Cy Herchelroath struck out 11 and gave up one hit in five shutout innings as Elizabeth Forward (7-7, 3-6) beat McKeesport (2-12, 2-7) in Section 3-4A. A.J. Grese went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Nathan Grimm tripled for the Warriors. Brady Boyle singled for the Tigers’ only hit.

Ellwood City 11, Beaver Falls 1 – Aaron Lake tripled and drove in a run and Jordan Keller doubled and knocked in a run while Will Nardone struck out nine in five innings as Ellwood City (7-7, 3-6) rocked Beaver Falls (0-11, 0-11) in Section 1-3A.

Fox Chapel 15, Armstrong 0 – Troy Susnak and Ben DeMotte each knocked in four runs, while winning pitcher Jeremy Haigh doubled, drove in two runs and struck out eight as Fox Chapel (12-3, 7-2) defeated Armstrong (6-7, 3-7) in Section 1-5A.

Greensburg Salem 11, Brownsville 3 – Tyler Martin went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs and Dom Rosensteel was 2 for 4 with and drove in a pair to lead Greensburg Salem (6-7, 5-4) to a Section 4-3A victory. Rylan Johnson had two hits and knocked in a run for Brownsville (0-12, 0-11).

Indiana 7, Highlands 0 – Greg Minnick threw a five-inning one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to lift Indiana (8-6, 6-3) to a Section 4-4A win. Andrew McGee had two hits and four RBIs and Trevor Smith went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Indiana. Trent Durci had a hit for Highlands (2-13, 1-8).

Knoch 16, Hampton 8 – Logan Cypher had four hits and four RBIs, Dante Pelloni collected three hits and knocked in two runs, and Braden Wozniak singled, doubled and tripled for Knoch (6-8, 3-6) in a Section 4-4A win. Sean Sullivan doubled twice, tripled and plated a pair for Hampton (7-6, 4-5).

Laurel 5, Freedom 1 – Winning pitcher Hunter Kobialka doubled as Laurel (8-7, 6-5) beat Freedom (8-7, 6-5) in Section 2-2A. Mason O’Donnell and Zach Kuntz each doubled for the Bulldogs.

Leechburg 8, Rochester 2 – Winning pitcher Garrett Jones struck out nine, Randy Rollinger knocked in three runs and Jayden Floyd doubled and drove in a run as Leechburg (8-6, 7-4) bested Rochester (4-8, 4-5) in Section 2-A. Logan Lyons doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Rams.

Mars 4, Shaler 3 – Charles Bickel hit a game-tying RBI single in the seventh and Jake Johnson drove in the winning run on a groundout in the eighth to lift Mars (7-5, 5-4) past Shaler (11-3, 5-3) in Section 3-5A.Chase Beran went 3 for 4 with a homer, a double and a pair of RBIs for the Titans. Grady Speigle tossed two shutout innings of relief for the win for the Fightin’ Planets.

Mohawk 10, Shenango 8 – Keigan Hopper and Bobby Fadden were each hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to secure two runs for Mohawk (14-1, 9-0) in a Section 1-3A win. Vinny Pezzuolo went 3 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs while Jckson Chapman got the win for the Spartans. Grayson Hooks doubled and drove in three for Shenango (7-7, 5-4).

Moon 3, New Castle 0 – Coleman Fletcher gave up two hits and struck out five in a complete-game shutout for Moon (7-7, 4-5) in a Section 3-5A victory against New Castle (1-14, 0-9). Connor Kunkle drove in a run for the Tigers.

Mt. Lebanon 15, Baldwin 1 – Winning pitcher Grahan Keen struck out nine in five innings for Mt. Lebanon (14-3, 11-2) in a Section 2-6A win over Baldwin (1-15, 0-12). Keen was 2 for 2 at the plate with a home run, a double and four RBIs while David Shields homered and also drove in four for the Blue Devils.

Mt. Pleasant 4, Waynesburg 1 – Jacob Kitz threw a complete-game five-hitter and Brady Poole drove in two runs as Mt. Pleasant (10-4, 8-1) moved into a tie for first place in Section 4-3A. Austin Surber singled and doubled for Waynesburg (10-1, 8-1).

New Brighton 20. Aliquippa 0 – Carter Jackson doubled and knocked in five runs, winning pitcher Jaxson Zahn doubled and drove in a pair, and Brandon Ribar, Dylan Pushak and Dom Pasquale each brought in a run as New Brighton (6-6, 4-6) cruised to a Section 2-2A win over Aliquippa (0-8, 0-8).

North Catholic 13, Kiski Area 2 – Anthony Sewecke, Blake Primrose and Tommy Koroly each collected three hits and three RBIs to lead North Catholic (8-4, 8-1) to a Section 4-4A win. Jake Smith doubled for Kiski Area (10-6, 5-4).

Norwin 10, Hempfield 8 – Keegan Carr went 3 for 5 with three RBIs while Nate Silberman, Nolan Ryan, and Jackson Huss each drove in a pair of runs as Norwin (9-7, 7-5) prevailed over Hempfield (12-5, 8-5) in Section 2-6A. Parker Donsen and Carson Shuglie each knocked in two runs for the Spartans.

OLSH 16, Northgate 1; OLSH 16, Northgate 1 – In the first game, Iseia Schulz struck out 13 and Brandon Brazell and Sean Hudac drove in three runs apiece for OLSH (12-4, 10-1) in a Section 2-2A win. Chris Crawford doubled for Northgate (0-13, 0-10). In the second game, Iseia Schulz threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 14 for OLSH. Chris Crawford doubled for Northgate.

Penn-Trafford 16, Gateway 1 – Brody Hoffman and Brayden Stone tripled while Ethan Spetak and Carmen Metcalfe each doubled as Penn-Trafford (13-1, 8-1) scored eight runs in both the second and fourth innings to beat Gateway (2-12, 1-7) in Section 1-5A. Dom Delio got the win for the Warriors.

Peters Township 4, Connellsville 3 – Nolan DiLucia brought home two runs while Brody Takacs and Will Somers each drove in a run to lead Peters Township (7-9, 4-5) to a Section 2-5A win. Jonathan Kelly singled and scored for Connellsville (7-9, 4-5). Matthew Scouvart got the win for the Indians.

Plum 7, Franklin Regional 4 – Sean Franzi singled, doubled and drove in two runs and Colin Watson also had two hits and two RBIs for Plum (10-5, 7-2) in a Section 1-5A victory. Luke Williams doubled and homered for Franklin Regional (9-6, 7-2).

Ringgold 12, Albert Gallatin 0 – Eddie Frizzell went 2 for 2 with three RBIs, Alex Kolano and Spencer Behrendt each doubled and Tyler Fisher struck out a pair as Ringgold (6-8, 4-5) shut out Albert Gallatin (3-13, 3-6) in Section 2-4A. Lucas Wilson singled for the Colonials.

Riverside 10, Neshannock 0 – Darren McDade went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Ashton Schlosser doubled and Zack Hare picked up the win for Riverside (11-0, 9-0) against Neshannock (7-7, 5-3) in Section 1-3A.

Riverview 8, Jeannette 2 – Jack Loughren struck out seven in four innings and Rece Stempfer had two hits and three RBIs to lead Riverview (10-3, 6-2) to a Section 3-2A win. Noah Rattigan had two hits and an RBI for Jeannette (6-6, 4-5).

Seneca Valley 2, Butler 0 – Mike Delduca doubled and drove in two runs while Zyler Freedman picked up a win for Seneca Valley (8-7-1, 5-5) over Butler (6-9, 4-6) in Section 1-6A.

Serra Catholic 3, Greensburg Central Catholic 1 – Tyler Skaggs threw a complete-game four-hitter and Zach Black singled, doubled and tripled to lead Serra Catholic (12-1, 9-0) in Section 3-2A. Grant Miller and Tyler Samide each had two hits for Greensburg Central Catholic (9-2, 8-1).

Sewickley Academy 14, Clairton 4 – Jordan Smith tripled and knocked in two runs, William Pietragallo doubled and plated a pair and Karan Kad finished with two doubles and an RBI as Sewickley Academy (3-9, 3-6) belted Clairton (3-8, 2-7) in Section 3-A. Jeff Thompson went 3 for 4 with a double for the Bears. Nolan Donelly got the win for the Panthers.

South Allegheny 2, Keystone Oaks 1 – Ryan Cortes went 3 for 4 with an RBI as South Allegheny (13-3, 8-1) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off against Keystone Oaks (4-8, 4-5) in Section 2-3A. Ian Bickel drove in the lone Golden Eagles run. Hunter Fulmer got the win for the Gladiators.

South Fayette 3, Upper St. Clair 0 – Ethan Rose allowed four hits and fanned six in a complete-game shutout as South Fayette (6-5, 5-4) defeated Upper St. Clair (5-10, 3-6) in Section 2-5A. Adam Caye drove in two runs and Tyler Schepis doubled and knocked in another run for the Lions. Nolan Wilson went 2 for 3 for the Panthers.

Southmoreland 6, Jefferson-Morgan 4 – Jake Govern went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Kadin Keefer doubled twice and drove in a run, and David Billheimer pitched three shutout innings of relief for the win for Southmoreland (3-10) in nonsection play. Deakyn Dehoet doubled in a run for Jefferson-Morgan (6-7).

Thomas Jefferson 15, Woodland Hills 1 – Wyatt Janosko went 2 for 4 with a double and drove in three runs and Brady Hodge went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to lead Thomas Jefferson (14-2, 8-1) to a Section 3-4A win. Aaron Concepcion singled for Woodland Hills (0-12, 0-9). Dominic Metz got the win for the Jaguars.

Union 16, St. Joseph 1 – Winning pitcher Rocco Galmarini went 2 for 2 with four RBIs and Dom Cucitrone knocked in three to lead Union (10-2, 9-0) to a Section 2-A win. Gabe Maltese had the lone hit for St. Joseph (2-10, 2-7).

Uniontown 14, Laurel Highlands 3 – Winning pitcher Tate Musko struck out 12 in six innings as Uniontown (5-7, 4-5) defeated Laurel Highlands (1-12, 0-9) in Section 2-4A. Brayden Hinzy doubled and drove in three runs, while Hunter Smiley and Tyler Gasper each doubled and knocked in two runs for the Red Raiders. Devan Kivosky singled and drove in a run for the Mustangs.

Valley 4, Derry 2 – Winning pitcher Wesley Schrock singled and drove in two runs and Dom Dunkel doubled and plated another to lead Valley (11-4, 6-3) past Derry (5-7, 4-5) in Section 3-3A. Roman Fridley went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Trojans.

West Greene 3, Carmichaels 2 – Darren Knight struck out six in 6⅓ innings for the win while Lane Allison went 2 for 3 at the dish and picked up a save as West Greene (9-4, 6-3) beat Carmichaels (9-3, 6-3) in Section 1-A. Mason Lapana drove in a pair of runs for the Mighty Mikes.

West Mifflin 3, Chartiers Valley 1 – Zane Griffaton struck out 11 and went 2 for 4 with a double and Jayvon Thompson tripled as West Mifflin (14-2, 8-1) defeated Chartiers Valley (8-4, 6-3) in Section 3-4A. Nate Magilson doubled for the Colts.

Western Beaver 6, Springdale 1 – Winning pitcher Christian Stefankis and Nathan Anderson each went 2 for 3 with an RBI as Western Beaver (6-5, 6-3) beat Springdale (4-5, 4-4) in Section 2-A. John Hughes crushed a solo home run for the Dynamos. Vinny Ross doubled for the Golden Beavers.

Winchester Thurston 22, Summit Academy 3 – Sam Hammons drove in four runs, Alex Staresinic brought home three, and Benji Smuckler and winning pitcher Austin Lenhardt-Barley each knocked in a pair as Winchester Thurston rolled to a nonsection win over Summit Academy (0-10).

Yough 6, McGuffey 4 – Landon O’Donnell hit a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie and winning pitcher Aidan Shaffer doubled and drove in a pair of runs as Yough (5-8, 4-5) edged out McGuffey (5-6, 5-4) in Section 4-3A. Ryan Keith went 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Highlanders.

Softball

Ambridge 13, Beaver 10 – Gianna Georgakis hit a double and home run, Caylin Fedora hit two doubles and drove in four runs, and Mackenzie Keber homered to lead Ambridge (1-9, 1-6) to a Section 3-4A win. Bridget Mayo hit three doubles for Beaver (2-11, 1-8).

Armstrong 10, Kiski Area 0 – Isabel Prazenica and Emma Paul each drove in two runs and Madison Baker struck out four and gave up only one hit as Armstrong (13-1, 9-1) shut out Kiski Area (2-10, 2-6) in Section 2-5A. Samantha Matson doubled for the Cavaliers.

Belle Vernon 10, Albert Gallatin 3 – Lily Crawford pitched three innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and striking out seven for Belle Vernon (12-4, 7-4) in a Section 2-4A win. Gracie Sokol hit two doubles and Mia Zubovic drove in four runs for the Leopards. Mya Glisan hit a double and drove in two runs for Albert Gallatin (1-11, 1-10).

Carlynton 12, Northgate 5 – Kyla Morris struck out 12 and Danica DeCecco had three singles, a home run and four RBIs to lead Carlynton (7-7, 6-6) to a Section 1-A win. Sa’Niyah Wilson hit a home run for Northgate (5-7, 5-5).

Chartiers-Houston 18, Mapletown 0 – Ella Richey went 4 for 4 with a double, home run and six RBIs and Lauren Rush had a double, home run and three RBIs to lead Chartiers-Houston (11-1, 9-0) to a Section 2-A win over Mapletown (4-8, 4-6).

Connellsville 5, Peters Township 2 – Kirra Davis hit a single, double and home run and drove in two runs for Connellsville (11-5, 7-3) in a Section 4-5A win. Madison Renda hit two singles for Peters Township (4-11, 1-8).

Elizabeth Forward 13, Uniontown 0 – Addy Nigut hit a grand slam in the first inning and Berlyn Holibaugh hit a two-run homer to lead Elizabeth Forward (13-1, 10-0) to a Section 2-4A win over Uniontown (8-3, 8-2).

Franklin Regional 14, Gateway 2 – Toryn Fulton hit a grand slam and Ciara Camacho tripled and drove in three runs as Franklin Regional (8-8, 5-5) evened its record in Section 2-5A with a win over Gateway (0-14, 0-11). Adrianna Martz had two doubles and Iyarah Hicks drove in four runs for the Panthers.

Freedom 16, Aliquippa 1 – Emilee Waggoner and Hayden Baucan doubled and drove in two runs apiece and Shaye Bailey doubled and had three RBIs for Freedom (3-8, 3-7) in a Section 1-2A win over Aliquippa (1-12, 0-12).

Freeport 12, Valley 1 – Addyson Caruso hit a double and home run, Lauren Clark homered and Leah Clark tripled for Freeport (8-5, 5-3) in a Section 1-3A win over Valley (1-13, 1-8).

Greensburg Salem 12, Ringgold 0 – Winning pitcher Alle Scarpa homered and drove in a pair of runs as Greensburg Salem (5-10, 3-7) blanked Ringgold (2-10, 2-8) in Section 2-4A. Katana Schade had two hits and two RBIs and Cate Waugamen added two hits and drove in a run for the Golden Lions.

West Allegheny 9, Mars 2 – Aubrey Police went 4 for 5 with a home run and six RBIs and Alaina Pass hit three singles to lead West Allegheny (15-2, 8-1) in a Section 3-5A win. Laura Craska hit a double and home run for Mars (5-10, 4-5).

West Mifflin 12, Highlands 9 – Caleigh Ignat hit a double, home run and had three RBIs and Jasalin Guenther drove in four runs to lead West Mifflin (9-7, 6-4) to a Section 1-4A win. Carrah Scardina hit a single, double and had four RBIs for Highlands (1-10, 1-7).

Yough 14, South Allegheny 6 – Makayla Spoonhoward went 5 for 5 with two home runs and six RBIs to power Yough (6-3, 5-3) to a Section 3-3A win. Winning pitcher Adoria Waltier went 4 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs and Kaylin Ritenour also homered for the Cougars. North Hills 18, Baldwin 5 – Abigail Krogmann scored nine goals to lead North Hills to a nonsection win. Addison Moriconi, Julia Yeloushan and Emily Mejia added two goals apiece for North Hills.

Peters Township 21, Norwin 9 – Grace Kail had five goals and three assists to lead Peters Township (8-6, 6-2) to a Section 1-3A win. Emma Kail scored four goals and Lani Filoon, Eiley Zurich and Dana Anderson each scored three for Peters. Gia Fernandez scored a hat trick and Karlie Johnson and Ava Wilson added two goals apiece for Norwin (8-5, 4-2).

Quaker Valley 17, Aquinas Academy 0 – Lucy Roig scored five goals and Alexa Westwood had four goals and three assists to lead Quaker Valley to a Section 2-2A win. Sydney Hewitt and Mia Floro each had a pair of goals and Emily Reiner recorded the shutout.
