The Penn-Trafford girls’ soccer team displayed dominance in all phases of the game en route to a 7-0 victory against Hempfield Area on Monday. Host Penn-Trafford improved to 10-1 in Class AAA Section 1 (10-2-1 overall), while Hempfield Area, clinging to third place in the section, fell to 6-4 (7-4-1 overall). With the triumph, the Warriors keep their section title hopes intact, with a battle to determine section supremacy slated for later this week.

Lauren Stovar opened the scoring for the Warriors in the 14th minute, as he slipped the ball past Hempfield goalkeeper Sam Orie on a breakaway. Jordan Lawrence added to the Penn-Trafford lead in the 28th minute, as she pounced on a loose ball initially intended for Kiley Dugan and deposited it into the gaping net. Hannah Nguyen provided another tally for the Warriors less than four minutes later, beating Orie to the far side and just inside the post.

Staked to a 3-0 advantage at the intermission, the Warriors continued their offensive onslaught in the second half, adding four more goals. Athena Biondi scored on a rebound at the 58 minute mark, and Lawrence netted her second just more than three minutes later.

The Spartans then relieved Orie, who played through a shoulder ailment, but backup netminder Reanna More didn’t fare much better, as Taylor Karan and Kayla Turkowski concluded the scoring in the final three minutes.

While the offense proved explosive in generating 13 shots, the defense for the Warriors was stifling, allowing just three second-half shots on goal by Hempfield Area. As a result, goalkeeper Victoria Anderson earned the shutout.

While Penn-Trafford’s contest against first-place Norwin looms on Wednesday, the Spartans have an equally important match on the same night against fourth-place Greater Latrobe.
