It was a beautiful day for softball in Hookstown PA. Home of the South Side Rams. In a Hometown Sports broadcast the Rams clinched a share of the section title with a 9-0 win over their rival the Western Beaver Golden Beavers. South Side finishes the regular season with  an overall record of 16-3. In single A section 5 they finished with an 11-1 record and a share of the title with Shenango. They split the season series and have identical 11-1 records.

In today’s game the Rams scored 6 runs in the first innings on 4 hits and 3 Western errors. They then ended all of the scoring for the game with 3 runs on 1 hit and 3 more Golden Beaver errors to make it 9-0 and never look back. It was Senior Day  and with 8 on the roster it would be memorable for al of them. Coach Theresa Waxler made sure all of Seniors played. ” We are a family, these girls taught us so much and it was great to see them all play” said Freshman star Cheyenne Seik. With a roster  of 8 Sr’s 2 Jr’s 7 Soph’s, and 7 Freshman, playing time was earned. However everyone’s attitude toward each other has always been positive. “Coach Waxler encourages unity, she’s the reason we have no jealousy, and all root for each other. None of us care who bats first, who’s playing. We all get along so well” said senior Charity Busa Davis after the game.

Here are the individual stats for the Rams in this afternoons game. Starting Pitcher Alexis Tripp got the win pitching 7 innings, not giving up a run, walking only 2, giving up 3 hits, and striking out 8. CF Carla Riggs went 1-3 with a single, a walk, a run, and an RBI. LF Seik went 1-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI. RF Cassie Gentile went 0-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. 1b Trish Lamont went 0-2 with 2 walks, and a run scored. 3B Michele Klein went 0-0 with 4 walks, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base.

SS Sarah Androlia went 2-3  with a double, single,a run scored and 2 RBI. 2B Tori Conti was 0-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. C Marla Thomas was 1-3 with a single, a run scored and 2 RBI. DP Busa Davis was 2-3 with 2 singles and an RBI.

Three Seniors who did not start but got at bats on Senior day were Autum Cunningham, Ashlee Waxloer, and Maddy Shiel. When each went to the plate the Ram dugout rose and cheered. For the three it was all smiles as the home plate umpire wrote their name in the lineup as they went to the batters box. Though none of them got a hit, it was a nice moment for the girls as they devote so much time and energy to helping this team become better.

Of course no Senior day would be complete without the traditional silly string spray. After the game all of the seniors run the bases as all the underclass gals, and parents and even little sisters spray the outgoing seniors with silly string. Its a colorful, gooey mess but its a tradition the girls look forward to each spring. The South Side Rams will wait a week to hear where and when they will start the playoffs. ” I know there are good teams out there we will have to play, we just want to enjoy this win and celebrate and get back to work next week” coach Waxler said in an interview afterwards.
