Jeannette was honored Tuesday afternoon before the House of Representatives in Harrisburg for winning the PIAA Class A football championship last season.

Among those recognizing players, coaches and school board members at the State Capitol were Lt. Gov. Mike Stack, Sen. Kim Ward, and State Reps. Ron Marsico and Justin Walsh.

“It was a great honor and privilege to be honored,” Jeannette coach Roy Hall said. “For the City of Jeannette and the Jeannette Jayhawk team. They also took us on a tour and fed us lunch. It was a great day.”

Senior Robert Kennedy was presented a ring for winning Pennsylvania Small School Mr. Football and state co-player of the year.

Jeannette finished 15-1 and won its second state championship, the first since 2007. Along the way, the Jayhawks reached 736 all-time wins, the most by any team in WPIAL football history.

The team also captured its ninth WPIAL title.

Jeannette will have its banquet April 28. It will include a long-awaited championship ring presentation. Jeannette raised funds for the rings over several months, a venture catapulted by a substantial donation from the city’s Elliott Company.
