The Latrobe girls swimming team (1-0) faces the season without one of its top swimmers.

Junior Carrie Lenz, a WPIAL individual finalist last season, is out with a shoulder injury.

Wildcats coach Greg Arrigonie said some other swimmers also are questionable.

“(We are) figuring things out,” he said, adding the season could go either way.

Seniors Rylee Jackson and Gloria Hickey and juniors Kiley Myers and Joyce Yin return.

Jackson earned two medals at the WPIAL Class AAA championship last season, including a bronze in the 50-yard freestyle event.

Freshmen Hannah Brewer and Grace Wetzel join the squad.

Things are more settled in diving, where senior Taylor Miller leads the way.

Miller, an Ohio University recruit, came in third at the WPIAL Class AAA championship last season.

Miller said she hopes to place at the PIAA championship. She failed to make the finals a year ago.

Sophomore Jordyn Miller, who is Taylor's sister, and senior Lily Barta return to the board.

The Wildcats boys team (1-0) is coming around, said Arrigonie, who also guides the boys.

Sophomores Brendan Bugala, Corbin Makar and Daniel Marinchak and junior David Marinchak are returning swimmers.

Freshmen Gavin Skwirut and Donovan Lechman are new to the team.

Both squads downed Greensburg Salem in dual meets. They face Indiana on Jan. 2 before kicking off Section 1-AAA action Jan. 4 at Kiski Area.
