The McKeesport Tigers won a Week Zero matchup against the Woodrow Wilson (D.C.) Tigers on Saturday night, 28-13.

The game was the third of four that took place at the Wolvarena in Turtle Creek in the WPIAL vs. Everyone Showcase. Both teams played in the event last season: Woodrow Wilson defeating Woodland Hills; McKeesport beating Erie.

McKeesport led 28-0 at halftime in a dominating first half.

Senior Devari Robinson made his debut at quarterback, running the triple option offense for coach Matt Miller.

That offense put together a drive that last 5 minutes, 52 seconds to start the game. A 1-yard touchdown run from Robinson and an extra point from Anthony Beitko gave McKeesport a 7-0 lead. Robinson struck again after a Woodrow Wilson three-and-out, returning a punt 40 yards for a touchdown at the 3:44 mark of the first quarter. After a successful kick, it was 14-0.

The second quarter saw McKeesport scored another 14 points. Vern Andrews scored on a 37-yard scamper, which was followed by another Robinson scoring strike, this time on a 6-yard run. Both kicks were converted, and it was 28-0.

Woodrow Wilson made up ground in the second half but not enough to overcome the deficit.

Senior quarterback Benton Oneal threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter. Both were caught by junior receiver Denim Oneal. Levi Kay converted the extra point on the first touchdown. Woodrow Wilson opted to go for a two-point conversion after the second score but was unsuccessful.

Each team had one turnover during the contest, which also saw many penalties charged to both sides.

McKeesport will take a 1-0 record to Connellsvile next Friday in their first Class 5A Big East conference game. Connellsville also is off to a 1-0 start. Woodrow Wilson will play Friendship Collegiate Academy at home on Saturday.
