Nick White approved as Franklin Regional boys soccer coach

Nick White was approved Monday as the boys soccer coach at Franklin Regional.

White replaces Lukas Petersen, who resigned after two seasons.

Franklin Regional finished 12-9 last season and made a run to the WPIAL Class 3A semifinals after a 2-1 victory over No. 3 seeded Moon. The Panthers were the No. 11 seed.

White, 41, was an assistant at Fox Chapel under Erik Ingram for the last 10 years. Ingram is a former Franklin Regional girls soccer coach.

White is a seventh-grade history teacher at Fox Chapel’s Dorseyville Middle School.

A Peters Township and Westminster graduate, White also has coached middle school girls and boys soccer at Fox Chapel and has worked with the Foothills United Soccer Club as the U18 girls coach.

“Franklin Regional is a great soccer community and has a strong program with a boatload of tradition,” White said “In talking with (athletic director Zach) Kessler, it became extremely clear that he and I shared the same goals when it came to the soccer program. Plus, this is a great opportunity and a wonderful situation working with great people and great kids in a great community.

“FR boasts a strong youth program, fantastic middle school program and a highly decorated high school program.”

White said he plans to retain assistant Andy Saparito, who was his college teammate.

“He is a fantastic coach, a good friend, and I’m really looking forward to getting this started with him on board,” White said. “For me, to get the opportunity to be a head coach at FR with the things I mentioned, and build from what coach Rand Hudson and coach Lukas Petersen and others before me have done, I could not have come up with a better scenario. I cannot wait to get started on this journey.”
