North Allegheny, Ambridge remain atop boys volleyball rankings

The WPIAL boys volleyball playoffs are only three weeks away, and the teams in contention are making their final pushes with tournament play as well as section and nonsection dual matches.

The Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association boys volleyball rankings for Week 6 released Monday and based on a vote of the 40 WPIAL head coaches show some changes from the previous week.

North Allegheny remains at the top in Class AAA, but Butler moves up to No. 2 from No. 4 last week.

Bethel Park, the champion of Saturday's Plum Invitational, stays at No. 3, while Penn-Trafford slides from No. 2 to No. 4.

Hempfield moves up one spot to No. 5, while Norwin, which defeated Penn-Trafford 3-1 in a section match April 17, rises two spots to No. 6.

Shaler stays at No. 7, and Seneca Valley drops to No. 8. Latrobe and Canon McMillan maintain their holds on No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

The top six teams in AA remain in the same spots from last week's poll. Ambridge is at No. 1, followed by Derry, Deer Lakes, Seton LaSalle, Montour and Beaver County Christian.

Trinity, which debuted in the poll last week at No. 9, is at No. 7 this week.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic maintained its spot at No. 8, while Bishop Canevin moved down from No. 7 to No. 9.

Keystone Oaks is No. 10 for the second week in a row.

The Players of the Week for AAA, also voted on by the coaches, are Norwin junior outside hitter Jake Williams and Bethel Park senior outside hitter Max Cooley.

Voted as AA players of the week are Derry senior libero Jake Griffin and Bishop Canevin junior outside hitter Matt Menosky.
