North Allegheny notebook: Tigers earn 4 medals at Huron River Sprints

North Allegheny’s rowing team opened the spring season by earning four medals and taking third place at the Huron River Sprints in Kensington, Mich., on April 20.

The men’s novice 4x of Nikhil Kshirsagar, Neil Pore, Grady Stoll and Max Disque with coxswain Abby Berger finished second.

The women’s JV 4x finished third behind Kathy Zema, Charlee Sunday, Madison Lambert and Alex

Witzel.

In the women’s 2x, Sawyer Wright and Lorelei Schreiber placed third. Alex Witzel and Kathy Zema placed third in the JV 2x race, just ahead of teammates Charlee Sunday and Madison Lambert.

The North Allegheny women placed third in Sculling points and the men’s team earned seventh place.

NA volleyball tops No. 1 Shaler

Will Robertson had 24 kills to lead North Allegheny to a 3-1 win over top-ranked Shaler on April 23, splitting the season series between Section 2-6A rivals.

The Titans won the first meeting April 19.

Game scores were 25-23, 23-25, 26-24 and 25-22.

Brendan Moore added 12 kills, Peter Bratish had 10, Will Hah recorded 20 digs and Nicolas Carioto handed out 30 assists for the Tigers.

Dante Palombo had 12 kills and Peyton Planz added 12 for Shaler. Both teams moved to 6-1 in section play.

Softball takes down Canon-McMillan

McKenna Rowlands hit a double and home run, Carlyn Vaupel hit a double and triple and Olivia Carlson hit two doubles to lead North Allegheny to a 7-3 victory over Canon-McMillan in Section 1-6A softball action April 23.

Sammy Plotsko scattered eight hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts to earn the win.

The Tigers improved to 7-3 overall and in section play.

Tigers baseball falls to Seneca Valley

Nick Parrotto walked it off for Seneca Valley (7-5-1, 4-4) in the eighth inning with an RBI single as the Raiders won a Section 1-6A contest 8-7 over North Allegheny on April 23. K

Matthew Parreaguirre was 3 for 4 with a double for North Allegheny (10-3, 7-1), which led 7-6 before SV tied the score in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Trailing 6-2, North Allegheny’s J.J. Mancuso and Mason Smith had RBI singles, and Augie Maslo knocked in two runs in the seventh. Charles Mau had an RBI groundout in the seventh.

NA tandems compete at WPIAL doubles

North Allegheny had two tandems compete at the WPIAL doubles tournament last week.

Brothers Adithya Ramades Guptha and Adhav Ramadas won a first-round match before falling to Gateway’s Zidaan Hassan and Logan Memije, 10-6, in the quarterfinals.

North Allegheny’s Srivatsav Thirumala and Shivum Telang lost in the first round.

Flag football teams roll to wins

North Allegheny’s Gold flag football team beat North Hills, 41-7, and Seneca Valley, 48-0, in games April 21, at North Hills’ Martorelli Stadium.

Maddie Williams had five touchdowns and four interceptions against North Hills. Danika Hogan, Maddie Hartung and Rosalia Varlotta also picked off passes.

Kyra Schmidt threw five touchdown passes in each game. Mia Fratto had two TDs against the Raiders. Varlotta had three interceptions and two scores.

North Allegheny’s Black flag football team beat North Catholic, 11-6, and Hampton, 18-0.
