Outdoor track season is only two weekends old, but elite North Allegheny runner Zach Kinne already holds the state’s top time in the 3,200 meters.
Kinne competed this weekend in the Adidas Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State and posted a 9:13.06 in the 3,200 race. He took ninth in the event but his time ranks first among Pennsylvania athletes so far this season, according to Milesplit.com stats.
Mt. Lebanon’s Patrick Anderson holds the state’s second-best time at 9:25.50, run this weekend at the Mt. Lebanon Invitational.
Those times will surely improve as the season advances. Kinne won the 3,200 at the Illinois state championships last season in a personal-best 9:03.55.
His family moved into the North Allegheny district from a Chicago suburb before this school year. Kinne already signed to run for Duke in college.
Kinne is the only WPIAL athlete that currently holds a state-leading mark among the boys, according to Milesplit.
Hempfield’s Mackenna Orie and Penn Hills Lillia Allen each rank first in Pennsylvania among the girls in throwing events. Orie’s discus throw of 146-3 currently ranks first, and Allen’s shot put distance of 43-6 is for now the best.
