The Penn Hills Junior Wrestling team claimed a championship at the Keystone State Championships in March. Logan Mutombo won the 61-pound weight class in the 6-and-under boys division. Mutombo beat Bald Eagle’s Rhett Rippey, 5-0, in the championship match.
On the way to the finals, Mutombo had to collect three victories to reach the championship match. In the first round, Mutombo beat Central Buck’s Reid Foy, 8-2, and followed that with a win against Tyrone’s Xzavior Weston and a 5-1 win over Great Valley’s Sean Wimmer in the semifinals.
Double duty
Penn Hills boys volleyball coach Will Piccolino is able to practice what he preaches. In addition to leading the Indians’ varsity team, he also plays as a senior outside/middle hitter on the Carlow men’s volleyball team. Piccolino leads Carlow with 212 kills this season.
Carlow is 3-14 on the season and 0-6 in conference play.

Indians baseball has tough opening series
Being forced to deal with tough weather has made life tough for Penn Hills. Not only did the Indians not get an opportunity to play before the start of Section 1-5A play, they opened the year with a tough test in section.
Penn Hills dropped a home-and-home series with Franklin Regional, losing the games by a combined score of 26-1.
Penn Hills athletes sign to play in college
There’s a long list of Indians’ athletes who have already decided to play sports in college next fall. But the list has continued to get longer as the spring rolls on. Connor Lehman, who is on Penn Hills’ baseball team, chose to play at Geneva next season.
Two players from the Indians girls soccer team, Angelina Clayborn and Kali Booker, will play at Bethany and Chowan, respectively.
