Makenna Marisa, one of the top girls basketball players in the state, made a verbal commitment to Penn State on Friday night.

The Peters Township senior guard, who averaged 23 points and nearly 10 rebounds as a junior when the Indians reached the WPIAL title game, announced her commitment on Twitter.

She wrote: “I am beyond excited to announce that I will be following my family’s footsteps while continuing my academic and athletic career at Penn State University!”

Marisa (5-10), a first-team all-state selection, had Division I offers from Baylor, Cincinnati, Duquesne, Michigan, Pitt, St. Joseph’s Villanova and West Virginia, among others.
