The brackets are set for the 2024 PIAA girls basketball state playoffs with first-round games scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
There are 37 girls teams from the WPIAL ready to battle on the Road to Hershey.
Since the expansion to six classifications seven years ago, six District 7 girls basketball teams have won PIAA championships. The only year the district did not have a girls basketball state champion was in 2017. There were no PIAA champions when the tournament was canceled due to covid-19 in 2020.
There were multiple WPIAL winners in the state finals only once, in 2019.
The “modern day” WPIAL girls basketball champions in the PIAA were Mars in 2018, Chartiers Valley and Peters Township in 2019, North Allegheny in 2021, Neshannock in 2022 and Union last winter.
Here are the “western region” first-round matchups for this year’s tournament.
