Seneca Valley’s Aidan Campbell commits to Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters

Earlier this month, Aidan Campbell helped the Pittsburgh Pens Elite 16U hockey team capture the USA Hockey Tier I Elite National Championship.

Now, after several years in the Pens organization, the Cranberry native will take the next step in his hockey career.

The goaltender, a junior at Seneca Valley High School, has committed to play for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.

The 6-foot-4 Campbell, 16, signed an OHL Standard Player Agreement on Thursday.

He was the Otters’ 12th-round pick (224th overall) in last spring’s OHL Priority Selection draft.

“It’s a great organization, and I’m so excited to be able to wear this amazing logo and support the Erie community,” Campbell said at a Thursday afternoon press conference announcing the signing.

“The fact that they have had a really good history just pulls me towards this organization and everything about it.”

Campbell was in net for the Pens Elite’s national title game against the Yale Bulldogs on April 8 in Grand Rapids, Mich. He stopped 26 of 27 shots as the Pens scored a 2-1 victory.

In the semifinals, Campbell turned away 43 of 44 shots as the Pens edged the St. Louis Blues, 2-1.

He won all five games he started at the tournament and stopped 137 of the 142 shots he faced.

Campbell appeared in 28 regular-season games with the Pens Elite 16U and led the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League in wins (17), shutouts (8), goals against average (0.69) and save percentage (.944).

He also played in nine games for Seneca Valley during its 2018-19 PIHL season and went 5-3-1 with a .919 save percentage and a 2.07 goals against average.
