Sewickley Academy boys basketball hopes to remain undefeated in section play

The Sewickley Academy boys basketball team bounced back from a close nonsection loss to Aliquippa with a rout of South Side.

The Panthers now hope to make it two in a row with a Section 3-2A game at Burgettstown on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Sewickley Academy is 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the section, one-half game behind Our Lady of the Sacred Heart for the section lead.

Burgettstown (6-5, 1-2) is one of four teams in the section with two losses.

Panthers hockey team moves into fourth-place division tie

Sewickley Academy edged Freeport 4-3 on Monday in a PIHL Varsity A matchup and moved into a tie for fourth with North Hills in the North Division.

Both the Panthers and Indians are 7-5 with 14 points. The teams meet next Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Robert Morris University’s Colonials Arena.

Logan Fullerton scored with 4 minutes, 36 seconds left in the third period to rally Sewickley Academy past Freeport. Will Duggan tied the game at three early in the third, and goals from Jackson Paul and Matthew Hajdukiewicz initially gave the Panthers a 2-0 advantage.

QV girls basketball team plays another close game

Quaker Valley has played 10 games this season, and six of them have been decided by four points or less.

The Quakers were on the short end of one of those outcomes Monday with a 31-28 loss to Keystone Oaks in a Section 2-4A game.

The win put the Golden Eagles at 3-2 in section play, while QV fell to 2-2.

Blackhawk (4-0) owns the section lead, followed by Central Valley (3-1), Keystone Oaks and Quaker Valley.

QV travels to Central Valley on Thursday.
