Whether it’s the football end zone or a soccer net, both places are treated like a crime zone by the fall sports teams at Pittsburgh Central Catholic. They might as well put yellow tape around the end zone or net because the Central Catholic teams take a “keep out” attitude towards them. It is unusual for two fall sports teams to have such a successful zero tolerance policy. The Central Catholic football team is 4-0 and has allowed only seven points in four games. The Vikings have three shutouts and are the No. 1 defensive team in the WPIAL. The Central Catholic boys soccer team has played 11 games and has allowed only one goal. Every weekend, there are 62 high school football games played around the WPIAL, most of them on Friday and generally less than a handful on Saturday. But as we hit the midway point of this 2014 campaign, we also had the busiest night of the scholastic football season with ALL but one district game being played under the lights on the Fifth Friday. Here are ALL of the final results from ALL 61 contests. Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – South Side Rams
In Hometown Girls Volleyball action at South Side High School in Hookstown, PA., the Our Lady Of Sacred Heart Chargers defeat the home standing Rams by a 3-0 match score and remain undefeated at 7-0 in single A section 4. South Side falls to 5-2 with their only two section losses coming at the hands of the Chargers.
Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Freeport Yellowjackets – 09/25/2014
The Hornets made the trek from Hermitage, PA and District 10 take face the defending WPIAL Class AA Champion Yellowjackets at “The Hive” in Freeport and the Jackets continued their strong 2014 campaign with a 3 game victory (25-16, 25-22, 25-14) over Hickory. Freeport jumped out to leads in all three games in the match including a 2-0 start in Game 1. Hickory provided some stubborn and stellar net play, but services errors by the Hornets did not lead to any long point runs and the Yellowjackets won by 9 points.District College Football Preview for Saturday, September 27th
Week 4 of the local college football slate has divisional play heating up in the PSAC, conference games in the PAC and a week off for Duquesne and Robert Morris. W & J also has the week off, the Presidents debuted at #24 in the AFCA Division III poll after a 48-30 victory over CMU. A battle for the PAC title comes up next week when the Presidents host Thomas More. Here are previews of ALL the games, including one that can be heard here on the Network. Welcome to Week 5 of the high school football season. Becoming a local celebrity has its perks, and Chick’s Picks was set to enjoy yet another last weekend. The resident WPIAL football prognosticator was asked by the Pittsburgh Pirates to throw out the first pitch Saturday night when they took on the Brewers. Chick’s Picks did not hesitate to accept the offer, especially considering the tremendous success the Pirates have had this season. Game night arrived. Chick’s Picks was escorted onto the field by the Pirates PR staff. As she stepped onto the mound, she took it all in—the bright lights, the sellout crowd of over 37,000 fans, and even the famous Pirates Pierogies. Then, the nerves set in.
QV’s Chris Tanabe Shoots Par, Wins WPIAL Boys AA Golf by 6

Chris Tanabe of Quaker Valley was a cut above the rest on Wednesday, as he shot an even-par round of 72 to claim the 2014 WPIAL Boys’ Class AA Golf Championship at Youghiogheny County Club. Tanabe, a sophomore, bested the second-place finishers by an incredible six strokes. After Tanabe finished tied for fourth with an 80 in the sectional round at Pittsburgh North Golf Course to qualify for the championship, he teed off with the eighth group. Tanabe struggled with a bogey on his first hole, but then scorched the course in McKeesport the rest of the way, shooting 36 on each the front and back-nine holes.2014 WPIAL Girls Volleyball Standings – 09/24

It's amazing to think that we're nearly at the halfway point of the 2014 WPIAL regular season. Where does the time go? Well, that question is coincidentally what several coaches were thinking in Week Four as, with little time left, the sideline bosses would roll the dice and go for a two-point conversion to win the ballgame. Three of the four Plays of the Week involve late scores and the two point gambles that propelled their squads to big wins in pivotal games. Welcome to week five of Big Game Hunting. Before we get started a word from our sponsor (yours truly). I am already on the record with regard to this issue but it seems I am the lone voice crying out in the wilderness. I hate the seven o’clock starts! There seems to be an overwhelming movement towards them and it is very frustrating. Why is the hurry that already consumes our everyday lives being allowed to worm its way into my favorite thing? I find it despicable, truly. There I have gotten that off my chest and since I know holding my breath and stomping my feet will not help I will just go Big Game Hunting. The Summer of 2014 if officially over and we begin Autumn with plenty of great high school sports action this week here on the MSA Sports Network. For the second and final time this season, a WPIAL Class Quad-A game slipped into the Saturday schedule as the annual homecoming game at Shaler joined a list of three of the 'regulars' hosting Saturday afternoon high school football. While overcast skies replaced brilliant sunshine in the second half of these four contests, these players continued to shine bright al afternoon long. In week 3 of the district college football season, the President Athletic Conference kicked off with a pair of overtime games and the end of a long losing streak and the PSAC continued crossover play. Here are recaps of ALL the games, including two heard here on the Network. Waynesburg 44 – Geneva 38 in two overtimes Carter Hill threw his fourth touchdown of the game, hitting Zac Cappan for a 25 yard strike in the second overtime for the win to send the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 start. An annual homecoming game and three standard home afternoon contests made up the Week Four edition of the Saturday WPIAL football schedule. For the second straight week, there was a rare Class AAAA Saturday contest as Shaler could not end their long losing streak as they hosted Butler in their annual Saturday homecoming game. Plus there were home games for Saturday afternoon regulars Summit Academy, Western Beaver and Wilkinsburg.
