Here are the latest WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League football standings through Week Three of the 2014 high school football season. This year we have added points for, point against and the updated WPIAL tiebreaker points for all 124 teams. Standings are updated after Friday and Saturday's scholastic gridiron action each week. WPIAL Saturday Football Scores – 09/13/2014

A wet Saturday morning gave way to a gray and cool Saturday where a couple of big frays closed out the Week Three of the WPIAL football schedule, including a major showdown in Class AAAA where early season control of the Foothills Conference was at stake in the Mon Valley. Here is a rundown of ALL the final scores from District 7 on third third Saturday of 2014. WPIAL Friday Night HighLights for 9/12

After a couple of humid and warm Friday nights to kick off the 2014 season, cool air prevailed in Week Three making it feel more like football weather. With concerns of water breaks and cramps behind them, many players relaxed and let their talents take over with some huge efforts on Friday night. Scholastic Notebook – 09/12/2014

They haven’t exactly beaten world-class competition, but Norwin is still 2-0. After tonight, the Knights could be in a spot where they haven’t been in 15 years. Norwin plays at Seneca Valley in a non-conference game. While Seneca Valley (0-2) is trying to find itself, Norwin is trying to go 3-0 for the first time in 15 years. The last time Norwin was 3-0 was 1999, one of the greatest seasons in Norwin history. The Knights finished 8-4 and made it to the WPIAL semifinals before losing to Cecil Howard and McKeesport.

Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – South Side

South Side (3-1) got off to a hot start en route to a 3-0 (25-9, 28-26, 25-19) victory over Northgate (1-2) on Thursday night in Hookstown. The Rams were paced by Senior Outside Hitter Alexis Dhayer, who led all players with nine kills in the match, despite not playing for most of the second set. But it was South Side's quick and streaky start that propelled the Rams the most, as they stormed to a 25-9 first set victory. In the opening set, South Side started on a 5-0 run, then were led by serving specialist Lena Pieto, who helped rattle off eight-straight points, giving the Rams a 13-2 lead. A 4-0 run moments later would help South Side run away with the first set.

WPIAL & City League Week 3 Football Scores

The third Friday night of the 2014 WPIAL football season saw some cooler, player friendly weather conditions to Western Pennsylvania. We also hit the one-third mark of the season where 'early season' mistakes are no longer tolerated and are much more costly. Chicks Picks – Week Three – 2014

Welcome to Week 3 of the high school football season. After a series of disappointing picks last weekend, Chick’s Picks decided that she needed seek out a bit of clarity before making this week’s predictions. So, she headed out with her beau, pooch, and trusty crystal ball in tow, off to a scenic overlook known for its tranquilizing nature. Upon arrival at the overlook, the beau set off with the trusty crystal ball to find an optimal zen spot, while Chick’s Picks took a short stroll with the puppy – whose name, Ursa, happens to be Latin for bear. As they sauntered through the scenic landscapes, Chick’s Picks glanced in the beau’s general direction – alarmed by what she saw.

Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Central Valley

At Central Valley High School, the Central Valley Warriors girls volleyball team, in their first appearance on the MSA Sports Network, beat the Ambridge Bridgers 3-0. Scores of the three games were 25-15, 25-19, and 25-21. Central Valley has a veteran team under Dennis Damp with 5 seniors and 3 juniors among the rotation. Coach Damp who has 5 WPIAL Boys titles to his credit, has rounded this years Warriors into a true team. Everyone contributes and they worked together in the victory over the Bridgers.

District College Football Preview for Saturday, September 13th

Week 2 of the district college football scene has some good games and some strange happenings this weekend and it's not even close to Halloween. The PSAC begins it's first week of crossover play with East meeting West but after a May vote of the PSAC board, these games all count in the conference standings, so it is possible that a game in September could determine the representatives in the State Title Game in November. In the PAC, there are four meetings between PAC members this weekend, but due to the conference now having 14 teams and playing an unbalanced schedule, these games do not count towards the conference title.

WPIAL Big Game Hunting – Week Three 2014

See I told you it goes by quickly, I am just about set for week one and here is week three! The weather man says it will feel a lot more like football this weekend. Before we go Big Game Hunting a shout out to the defenses! We here at BGH are lovers of the defensive side of the ball. Despite the fact that all the gang at the network refer to us as “offensive”, sometimes right to our faces, we appreciate the big stops in the big spots. We love the traditionally strong defensive teams at have not allowed a single point thus far into the 2014 season.

Hometown Volleyball Match Recap – Chartiers-Houston

The Buccaneers of Chartiers-Houston took the victory in straight sets (25-11, 25-23, 25-23) over the Avella Eagles Tuesday night. Led by head coach Sean Cleary, the Lady Bucs were able to win all three games despite some sloppy play at times. In the beginning, it was a one-sided match. Avella had some communication problems and Char-Houston took advantage. Lex Tatano provided the offense with her powerful serve taking the team on a 6 point and 8 point run. The Bucs took care of business, yet games two and three were a different story.

WPIAL Plays of the Week – Week Two 2014

1. Pine-Richland 28, North Allegheny 24 (OT) Possibly the top-billed game of week two produced the top play of week two as well. After battling back and forth for 48 minutes, Northern Eight Conference powers Pine-Richland and North Allegheny went to overtime, tied 21-21. After the Tigers had to settle for a field goal, Pine-Richland would get their shot at the win. That’s when Rams Quarterback Ben DiNucci would take over.

WPIAL Saturday’s Scholastic Starz for 9/6

It was a very quiet Saturday in Week Two, made louder by those wild and crazy zebras. Somehow, someway, there was a miscommunication with the game officials for the California at Avella Class A Tri-County South Conference contest on Friday night. Thus the stars that we gladly point out in the skies from this Second Saturday of the 2014 season go from two to three. Just gazin. Noah Rullo and Lavelle Rush - Monessen

District College Football Recap for Saturday, September 6th

As the weather changed yesterday afternoon and evening, it felt more like football weather. The local college football season kicked off some good matchups and a couple of come back wins for the area teams. Here are recaps of ALL the games, including three heard here on the Network: Slippery Rock 37 – Kutztown 26 It was not a good start for the Rock at Thompson-Mihalik Stadium, SRU fell behind 20-0 but the Rock rallied for 37 unanswered points and the opening night win. Shamar Greene ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
