WPIAL Individual Wrestling Class AA Sectional Results 2012

Hempfield’s Nicole Metz on Target, Wins 2012 WPIAL Rifle Title
The girls ruled the day at the 2012 WPIAL Individual Rifle Championship Thursday afternoon at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmens Club in Canonsburg. When the 'smoke' cleared, girls claimed the top ten spots, led by Hempfield's Nicole Metz.Metz, the runner-up a year ago, finished with a final total of 200-18x, one of five shooters to register the same score. Woodland Hills Shoots For Gold, Wins 2012 Team Rifle Title
For the first time in 14 years, Woodland Hills High School is celebrating a WPIAL Team Rifle Championship.  Tuesday afternoon at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg, the Wolverines edged second pace Hempfield to claim the schools third rifle title and first since 1998.  Woody High's first championship was in 1992.Brendan Boyle, Colin Letson, Chuck Pantalone and Quinn Rouse all shot a 100-9x to lead the way for Woodland Hills, while Miranda Johnston and Mario Scaramouche shot a 100-8x.The Wolverines ' score of 800-65x was four better than runner-up Hempfield, which shot an 800-61x. Avella finished third  with a score of 799-58x. The defending champion Trinity Hillers finished in fourth place.

2012 WPIAL GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS

Ineligible Player Leads to Forfeits, Which Leads to Playoff Vacancy
MSA Sports has learned that the WPIAL girls basketball playing field has shrunk by one team before the brackets have even been announced. District officials say the use of an ineligible player has forced the Wilkinsburg Tigers girls basketball team to forfeit two section victories, costing them their playoff spot.

Canon-McMillan Golden in Claiming PIAA Team Wrestling AAA Title
February 11, 2012
It wasn’t easy, but Canon-McMillan (24-0) won the 2012 PIAA Class AAA team wrestling championship with a 35-20 victory over McDowell (18-2) this afternoon at the GIANT Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. In a dual meet that featured four lead changes, the Trojans made things very interesting. After winning six of the first nine bouts contested, McDowell built a slim four point lead.

PIAA Team Wrestling Championships – Day Three Highlights
Mechanicsburg’s talented big men proved to be too much for North Allegheny (20-6) to overcome, as the District 3 runner-up Wildcats tamed the Tigers, 43-22, in a fourth round consolation match today at the PIAA Team Championships at the GIANT Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. North Allegheny led early, 6-0, on the strength of decisions by sophomores Domenic Forys (113 pounds) and Blynn Shideler (120 pounds). The Wildcats’ Tristan Skelly then knotted the match at 6-6 with a fall at 126 pounds. The Tigers regained the lead briefly at 10-6 as sophomore Jesse Rodgers tallied a convincing 14-1 major decision over Kyle Shuler at 138 pounds. But it would prove to be the final lead of the match for North Allegheny.
