This is it!  As Apollo Creed told Rocky Balboa…there is no tomorrow! Well, actually there are six district games on Saturday, but you get the point. While some teams were forced to do some scoreboard watching Friday night, others just needed to take care of business on the field to either enhance their playoff positioning or just qualify for the district postseason.

North Hills Malone Sisters Finish 1-2 in Girls AAA X-Country Finals
No major surprises at the WPIAL Boys and Girls Cross Country Championships, just lots of wind, rain and mud. The competitors battled challenging conditions and a 3.1 mile course that had very few blades of grass remaining at the end of a long day at Cooper’s Lake.

Three of the four finalists in the 2011 PIAA Girls Team Tennis Championships were from District 7 as 2011 WPIAL champions Peters Township in AAA and Sewickley Academy in AA became 2011 PIAA Girls Team Tennis champions Saturday in Hershey.

Chicks Picks – 10/27/2011
Welcome to Week 9 of the high school football season. Friends of Chick’s Picks held the first annual Pumpkin Carve-nival this week to get in the Halloween spirit.  The Pumpkin Carve-nival, as it had been dubbed, was not your average pumpkin-carving party.  Prizes and pride were on the line, and Chick’s Picks was determined to take home gold in every category.

Four WPIAL boys golfers finished 1-2-3 and 4 after the final round of the 2011 PIAA Individual Golf Championships at Heritage Hills Golf Club on Tuesday, but it was Garrett Browning of West Allegheny who was the golden boy...again.

2011 WPIAL FIELD HOCKEY PLAYOFFS
Three of the four finalists this year have DOMINATED the district field hockey playing field since the sports inception in 1994. Between 2010 champions North Allegheny in AAA, Ellis School in AA and Shady Side Academy, the three programs have won 25 of a possible 31 WPIAL field hockey titles. The other finalist, Penn-Trafford is the new kid on the golden block.
