WPIAL Softball Playoff Recaps for Tuesday, May 31st
They weren't playing for gold at Cal U on Tuesday afternoon, but they were playing for a 'second chance'. Six teams playing consolation games for three spots in the 2011 PIAA Softball Playoffs which begin on Monday, June 6th. 2011 PIAA Boys and Girls Track and Field Day Two Update

Sprinters Trenton Coles of Clairton and Iman Wilkerson of Penn Hills turned a double play at the PIAA track and field championships Saturday at Shippensburg University. Coles, a junior, and Wilkerson, a senior, were the only double winners from the WPIAL on the final day of the two-day meet at Shippensburg University. Both won the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

North Allegheny and Deer Lakes Win 2011 WPIAL Boys Volleyball Titles
For one school, it was just another gold trophy to add to their recent run, for another, it's a title that has been a long time coming. North Allegheny beat section rival Seneca Valley in four games to capture a fifth consecutive WPIAL boys volleyball title by winning the Class AAA championship Friday evening at Chartiers Valley High School.

2011 PIAA Singles and Doubles Tennis Results
It was a tough state tournament showing for WPIAL tennis players in both the PIAA Singles and PIAA Doubles Boys Tennis Tournaments. The only district player to make it through the Quarterfinals was WPIAL Class AA Singles chamion D.J. Goldblum of Winchester Thurston.

Its 2009 All Over Again as Mt. Lebanon and Hampton Earn 2011 WPIAL Boys Lacrosse Championships
Mount Lebanon and Hampton won the very first WPIAL boys lacrosse championships two years ago in 2009. After missing out last season, the gold rush continued for both the Blue Devils and Talbots in 2011. Both schools captured a second WPIAL boys lacrosse crown with tight victories Friday night at Chartiers Valley High School and here on the MSA Sports Network.

Seneca Valley and North Hills Golden in 2011 WPIAL Girls Lacrosse

First time championships are always special. So you could say it was a very special night at Martorelli Stadium in the North Hills on Thursday as two schools celebrated their very first WPIAL girls lacrosse titles. Seneca Valley in Division I and North Hills in Division II captured the golden crowns...one in a tight thriller, the other in a one-sided affair.

WPIAL Softball Playoff Recaps for Wednesday, May 25th

While a majority of the Final Four softball games in the 2011 WPIAL Softball Playoffs will take place Thursday, three tickets reserved their spots in the finals at Cal U on Wednesday. 10th-seed Seneca Valley continues its surprise run in Class AAAA and Latrobe took care of Quad A top-seed Shaler in extra innings, while the top-seed in Class A rolled on to the finals in convincing fashion.

The WPIAL Baseball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today the 2011 winners of its annual Players, Pitchers and Coaches of the Year Awards. Players, Pitchers and Coaches of the Year were selected in Classes AAAA, AAA, AA and A based on regular season performance by a vote of WPIAL head baseball coaches.

16 games in the books from Quarterfinals Monday as the Final Four are now set in the 2011 WPIAL Baseball Playoffs. While two top seeds (Peters Township and Elizabeth Forward) flexed their muscles, one was upset (Shady Side Academy) while another needed three unearned runs in the 7th to force extra innings before pulling out the win (Serra Catholic).

Two WPIAL baseball teams head into the Quarterfinals with undefeated records. Considering the past, it would be highly unusual if one of them wins the WPIAL title. Norwin is 17-0 and plays in the Class AAAA Quarterfinals Monday against Bethel Park. Elizabeth Forward is 18-0 and plays in the Class AAA Quarterfinals Monday against either Greensburg Salem or Central Valley.

No WPIAL Teams Reach Finals as Conestoga and HGP Win 2011 PIAA Boys Team Tennis Titles
The 2011 PIAA Boys Team Tennis Championships were WPIAL free Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey. The furthest District 7 team to advance was WPIAL Class AA champion Sewickley Academy as the Panthers lost Saturday morning in the Semifinals.
