Change is the big theme this year in WPIAL boys' basketball. A number of strong teams from last year have changed classifications. Some moved up and some moved down. A pair of boys basketball teams captured WPIAL gold for a second straight season last year as both North Catholic in Class AA and Sewickley Academy in Class A successfully repeated as district boys basketball champions. And then there were three, the football four-pack shrinks to three in week 15 as AAA WPIAL champion Central Valley bows out in the state quarterfinals. The state playoffs began for the four WPIAL football champions on Friday night with snow and a chill in the air. The WPIAL has never swept the PIAA football playoffs in 22 years of the state postseason and it won't again here in 2010. The chase for the MSA Sports Cup is underway in the 2010-2011 high school sports season. The MSA Sports Cup is a challenge to determine the best sports program for the school year from the WPIAL in each classification. The first standings through the fall season will be released on Christmas Day.
