A top-ranked junior tennis player has joined the Hampton girls team.

Madison Cordisco, a freshman, transferred from Plum.

Coridsco, 14, is 41st in the U.S. Tennis Association girls 14 combined rankings. The Tennis Recruiting Network has her as the top college prospect in Pennsylvania in her class.

She and a player from Chester County made it to the doubles semifinals of the Girls’ 14 National Clay Court Championships in July in Florida.

Seeded eighth, they lost to the top-seeded team.

Hampton coach Grant McKinney is excited Cordisco is with the Talbots, who are slated to open Section 2-AAA play Aug. 22 at Seneca Valley.

“Due to (inclement weather), I haven’t gotten to see her hit much or play any matches,” McKinney said. “I have followed her junior tennis career and know she is very highly thought of.”

Cordisco, who will take courses online, wants to be the best student-athlete she can be.

“I would like to continue developing my tennis game, as well as creating good study habits to prepare me for college,” she said. “I have been improving my flexibility and strength (and) trying to implement new practices to keep me healthy and in top form.”

Jedd Cordisco, a former Hampton baseball and soccer standout, helps coach his daughter.

“We are starting to implement some new off-court training sessions and work on her strength and endurance,” he said. “I am excited to see what the future has in store for her.”

McKinney said Cordisco will blend with several returning senior starters.

Grace Kang has played singles throughout her high school career.

Lehka Pendyala, Rachel Karman and Rachel Weber competed in doubles last season.

“It will be nice to have age and some talented youth,” McKinney said.
