Steel Valley’s Hill, West Mifflin’s Parker, Penn Hills’ Smith commit to Howard

A trio of WPIAL football standouts plan to become teammates in college.
Steel Valley’s Todd Hill, West Mifflin’s Parrish Parker and Penn Hills’ Terry “Tank” Smith each verbally committed to Howard on Thursday.
They made their announcements on their Twitter accounts.
Hill and Parker, both Trib HSSN preseason all-stars, join Penn Hills quarterback Hollis Mathis who made a commitment to the Washington D.C. school in May.
Hill has made an impact several seasons for the Ironmen. He started as a sophomore for Steel Valley’s WPIAL and PIAA Class 2A championship team.
Last year, the 5-foot-9, 220-pound inside linebacker recorded double-digit tackles in every game as Steel Valley made it to the WPIAL title game before falling to Washington.
Hill also received offers from Duquesne and Robert Morris.
Parker, a cornerback and running back for the Titans, carried the ball 96 times in 2017 for 884 yards and 11 touchdowns while sharing rushing duties with the graduated Howie Reed.
The 5-10, 180-pound senior received nearly two dozen Division I offers, including ones from Ball State, Kent State, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green and Buffalo in the Mid-American Conference.
Smith was a key part of a Penn Hills team that compiled and 8-4 overall record last fall and made the semifinals of the WPIAL Class 6A playoffs.
The 5-9, 200-pound linebacker and running back ranked third on the team in tackles with 59, including eight tackles for a loss, three sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery.
Smith led the Indians’ rushing attack with 678 yards and seven touchdowns on 126 carries.
