2014 MSA Sports Diamond Dolls Softball All-Star Team

It doesn’t matter whether it was in the biggest classification of the WPIAL, or the smallest. There was an abundance of talent in district softball this season, evidenced by the MSA Sports Diamond Dolls all-star team. The Diamond Dolls team is made up of the top 10 players in the WPIAL and is picked by the MSA Sports staff. This is one of the most balanced Diamond Dolls teams, in terms of talent spread out over all four classifications. Two of the players are from Class AAAA, two from Class AAA, two from Class AA and four from Class A. Seven of the 10 players were in WPIAL title games. 2014 WPIAL SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS RESULTS

In the end, a pair of top-seeds won it all, a #2-seed claimed gold and the surprise of the postseason was a lucky #13-seed taking home gold in AAA. There were three new champs, a repeat in Class A, two first time champions and an undefeated team standing tall in the end. It was a soggy three weeks, but this springs softball district postseason is in the books with Shaler, Thomas Jefferson, Beaver and Neshannock wearing the golden crowns. Beaver Claims First Softball Gold in WPIAL AA Softball Championship

It was a dominant performance for Casey Farkasovsky when she needed it most. Beaver's sophomore starting pitcher shined bright on the big stage at California University as the Bobcats defeated the Deer Lakes Lancers 2-0 in the Class AA WPIAL Softball Championship. Both teams entered the game unbeaten and the matchup featured the top two seeds in the bracket. Farkasovsky shut down a Deer Lakes team that had seven hitters batting over .400 for the season. She held the Lancers to just three hits and fanned nine batters to go to 16-0 on the season with 129 strikeouts.

The scene shifts to California University, the long-time home of the WPIAL Softball Championships on Thursday. Four championships will be decided, three of the four number 1 seeds in the tournament advanced to play for the gold medal. Scholastic Notebook – 05/23/3014

The perfect championships don’t happen often in WPIAL softball.  But for the Deer Lakes Lancers, they’ve been in the perfect storm before. Deer Lakes is 18-0 and will play Beaver (15-0) for the Class AA championship Thursday at California University of Pennsylvania. It is only the third time in 17 years that a softball title game will match two undefeated teams. But it’s the second year in a row for Deer Lakes. In 2013, Deer Lakes and Riverside both took undefeated records into the title game before Riverside came away with a 5-1 victory. The only other time in the past 17 years that two undefeated teams met in a final was 1998 when Carmichaels beat Sto-Rox for the Class AA crown.

NA & Beaver Boys Along With Hempfield & SF Girls Win WPIAL Team Track Titles

Three teams were able to repeat their golden success from a year ago while one school tasted a team track title for the very first time. Hempfield captured a third straight girls Class AAA crown while both the North Allegheny boys in Class AAA and the South Fayette Lions in girls Class AA won for the second consecutive year. Meanwhile, it was a first time championship captured by the Beaver Bobcats in boys Class AA on Monday at Baldwin High School. Here are ALL of the results from the 2014 WPIAL Boys and Girls Team Track & Field Championships. The 2014 WPIAL Boys and Girls Class AAA and Class AA Individual Track and Field  Finals are set for Thursday, May 15th at Baldwin High School and here on the MSA Sports Network..

There are multi-sport athletes in the WPIAL who compete in more highly-visible sports than North Hills’ Noah Bostick. But as far as the number of sports and excelling in them, Bostick has few peers. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say Bostick is most one of the best all-around athletes in the WPIAL. He is a young man for all seasons – and then some. You don’t see many three-sport athletes these days at large schools. But Bostick is more than a three-sport athlete. He actually competes in four sports, and does well in all of them.

Blackhawk Cougars Hockey Game Recap for 12/19/13

At the Beaver County Ice Arena on Thursday December 19th the Blackhawk Cougars and Beaver Bobcats, two bitter rivals met, and by the end it was another rock em sock em back and forth battle this time won by the Cougars in come from behind fashion 5-4. Both teams came into the game with identical 6-4 records, and the Bobcats had won the previous meeting on November 21st in come from behind fashion by a 6-5 score. Every time these teams play its wild, entertaining, frustrating, and just a great game to watch.

Look at Friday night’s WPIAL Semifinals and you see many of the same old faces, like Aliquippa, Woodland Hills and Thomas Jefferson, to just name a few. But there are definitely some new faces mixed in.Penn-Trafford is making its first semifinal appearance since 1997. The Warriors have been to only one WPIAL title game.Neshannock is making its second consecutive semifinal appearance and will play Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic. Neither Neshannock nor North Catholic has ever been to a WPIAL title game.
