In the end, three top-seeds and an unbeaten 3rd-seed were wearing District 7 softball gold. Canon-McMillan repeated as Class AAAA champions. Greensburg-Salem in AAA and Neshannock in A were celebrating their schools very first softball title while undefeated Riverside won a sixth Class AA crown. Canon-McMillan Repeats in WPIAL Quad-A Softball

Junior Giorgiana Zeremenko came thru in a big way as the Canon McMillan Big Macs repeat as WPIAL champions with a 5-2 victory over the North Allegheny Tigers in the Quad-A WPIAL championship game at California University’s Lilley Field. Zeremenko hit a three run homer in the fourth and drove in four runs in the game. Senior Alayna Astuto allowed just four hits and struck out nine to pick up her 21st win of the season without a loss.North Allegheny actually took a 1-0 lead in this game, scoring in the bottom of the first. Laura Cotter led off with a double to left, with one out Christine Scherer singled to left, scoring Cotter. But pitcher Alayna Astuto shut down the inning, getting a pair of fly outs to right to end the inning.2013 WPIAL Softball Championships Preview

Never before has a district postseason tournament played out the same way the 2013 WPIAL Softball Playoffs have. in the end, the top-seed in all four classifications have made it through three round to the championships where they will face all four #3-seeds in each class. Another great year is in the books for the 2012-2013 high school wrestling season. The WPIAL provided a lot of excitement throughout the year, but it was Canon-McMillan in Class AAA and Burrell in AA that continued to rewrite history. Canon-McMillan not only won its record fourth consecutive WPIAL Class AAA team championship, but the Big Macs also won their second straight PIAA dual meet team championship and third straight PIAA individual tournament team championship. Four in a row on the district level, now Canon-McMillan has won back-to-back state championships. The Big Macs edged Central Dauphin Saturday afternoon to win the PIAA Team Wrestling Class AAA crown. Also in Hershey, Bethlehem Catholic won their third straight Class AA championship.Meanwhile, making their first ever state playoff appearance, Franklin Regional finished third when the Panthers won the Consolation Round championship.
