WPIAL Coaches Corner – Zach Skrinjar
February 12, 2017
In this feature titled “Coach’s Corner”, I will be interviewing a different coach every week and asking them questions about their personal life and about coaching. Hopefully their answers will not only shed some light on how they coach their respective teams, but also allow readers to get to know the men behind the fields/courts. This week highlights Fox Chapel boys basketball coach Zachary Skrinjar. Coach Skrinjar is in his 8th season as head coach of the Foxes, after four years as an assistant. Also a social studies teacher in the North Hills school district, Coach Skrinjar is hoping to bring Fox Chapel their first WPIAL title in 40 years. Let’s take a look inside Coach Skrinjar’s corner:

Scholastic Notebook – 02/03/2017
February 3, 2017
The spirit of 66 ended for one WPIAL girls team. But one boys team is close to getting into the same spirit. The subject is section winning streaks. The Quigley Catholic girls had what was the longest section winning streak in the WPIAL at 66, but it ended Thursday night after a 56-48 loss to Cornell. Turn to WPIAL boys basketball and look at Lincoln Park. The Leopards have a 64-game section winning streak. Lincoln Park has two section games remaining, and if the Leopards win both, they will finish the regular season with a 66-game streak. Lincoln Park plays Riverside and Ellwood City in its final two section games.

WPIAL Alum Q&A – Jessie Thiessen
November 21, 2016
For many athletes, their greatest achievements occur when they face and overcome adversity. For Jessie Thiessen, missing her entire junior season at Allegheny College could've possibly derailed her promising career. Instead, Thiessen came back stronger than ever on the pitch this year. The former Fox Chapel standout is the focus of this week's edition of the WPIAL Alum Q&A. In high school, Thiessen was a four-year letter winner for the Foxes, including a three-time offensive MVP for Fox Chapel. Additionally, she was a three-time All-Section honoree, as well as an All-WPIAL selection in her senior year in 2012.

Fox Chapel Beats Pine-Richland to Repeat as WPIAL 3-A Champs
November 2, 2016
The Fox Chapel Foxes used a dominant possession and attacking offense in the 3A WPIAL Field Hockey Championship game to defeat the Pine-Richland Rams 3-1 and capture the gold medal for the second consecutive season. After an early opportunity at the near post for Pine-Richland’s Alora Sharron which deflected away from the goal, the Foxes picked up the attack and dominated the offense for most of the game. The hard work paid off for Fox Chapel when sophomore forward Sydney Condron scored the game’s first goal at (24:32) of the first half. Condron was working down low along the left end line when she centered the ball and it deflected passed Rams goalkeeper Kierstin Coup to give Fox Chapel a 1-0 lead.
