Wonderful weather made for an excellent start to the MSA 'Stretch Run' to this high school football regular season. an old children's song contained the lyrics, "bend and stretch, reach for the stars." Fox Chapel’s Gregor Meyer Wins WPIAL Boys 3-A Golf Title

Gregor Meyer did not play in the WPIAL Individual Golf Championships at the Triple-A level last year. He was the 11th worst qualifier by score for a qualifying round to head to hollowed Oakmont Country Club for the Boy’s 3A Individual Golf Championship, Tuesday, Oct. 4. When all was said and done, the sophomore out of Fox Chapel High School shot the only under par score of the day, a 70 on the par-71 course, good for a -1 and a WPIAL crown.Friday HighLights for Week Five

As Friday night of Week Five of the 2016 campaign began, most pre-games and kickoffs had to deal with passing rain showers. But as the games went on, the skies cleared, the temps dropped and the stars started to shine. However in a day and age when most of the star are found in the sky, or at least doing damage through the air, it was a night of success for those who love to pound on the ground as eight running backs in the district surpassed 200 yards rushing, including one massive record setting performance. At Mapletown, Rush rushes. A lot. Dylan Rush is a junior running back at Mapletown who has enjoyed a big season so far. He is the second-leading rusher in the WPIAL with 1,027 yards. The only running back who is ahead of him is Armstrong’s Zane Dudek, who has 1,201. Rush stands only 5 feet 9 and weighs 180 pounds. You have to wonder how strong Rush’s back is, because he is carrying the Mapletown team on it. Rush’s number of carries isn’t on the high side. It’s on the ridiculous side. In four games, Rush has carried the ball 147 times. That’s 36.8 times a game. The rest of Mapletown’s team has 31 carries. On top of that, Mapletown has thrown 22 passes – and Rush has attempted seven of them.
CTK ’16: 5-A Allegheny Nine Conference Preview

One of the best aspects of the football realignment is the potential to build new and exciting rivalries. The Allegheny Nine Conference certainly provides some captivating possibilities, as former Quad-A Powerhouses Woodland Hills and Upper St. Clair are now joined by an elite team from AAA, West Allegheny. Six of the nine teams qualified for the postseason in 2015, with North Hills, Hampton and Chartiers Valley joining the aforementioned three. Meanwhile, two teams that finished at the bottom of their respective Quad-A conferences, Baldwin and Fox Chapel, join former AAA squad Moon to round out the newly-formed 5A section.Scholastic Notebook – 05/13/2016

Plum High School’s nickname is Mustangs. But when it comes to athletes, Plum has a thoroughbred in Ashley Amato. The MSA Sports staff doesn’t name a female athlete of the year until late June. But you would think Amato will get serious consideration. There are three-season rooms in houses, but Plum houses a three-sport standout in Amato. And in the spring, she shines brightest. So far this track and field season, Amato has the best 200-meter time in WPIAL Class AAA at 25.3 seconds. She has the third-best 100 hurdles time of 14.69 and is tied for the third-best 100 time at 12.2. She is has the third-best AAA long jump at 18-2 ¾. At the Baldwin Invitational last Friday, Amato won the long jump, was second in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the 200.PIAA Girls Tennis : Ananya Dua Repeats in Singles While Fox Chaple Duo Wins Doubles

The PIAA Class AAA Girls Tennis Singles and Doubles finals turned into a WPIAL love-fest as district players met each other in both title matches Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club. Ananya Dua of Shady Side Academy made history by repeating as PIAA AAA Singles champion by beating Anna Li of North Allegheny 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Dua is only the third WPIAL tennis player to win back-to-back state AAA singles crowns following Michaela Kissell of Latrobe (three consecutive from 2003-05) and Mount Lebanon’s Kelly Kolankiewicz (1982-83). Li beat Charlotte Madson of Upper St. Clair in the Semifinals as three district players made up the Final Four. Madson won the consolation match 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 over Payton Bradley on Downingtown West.
Canon-McMillan Comes Back to Claim Boys AAA Soccer Gold in OT
The Canon-Mac Big Macs won their second WPIAL boys soccer championship at Highmark Stadium at Station Square when in the 8th minute of overtime Brandon Byer beat Fox Chapel keeper Jacob Dunn for a "Golden Goal", and a 2-1 Canon-MacMillan win. Fox Chapel had the better of play for most of the night out shooting and out-chancing the Big Macs. Fox Chapel took the lead in the 11th minutes when Kota Furuhata headed a Nathan Wecht corner behind Big Mac keeper Christian Snatchko.Fox Chapel Ousts North Allegheny as WPIAL AAA Field Hockey Champ

Fox Chapel won its second WPIAL Class AAA crown in the last four seasons by defeating the defending champion North Allegheny Tigers, 2-0, at Newman Stadium at North Allegheny High School on Tuesday night. The Tigers were trying for a three-peat and were facing a Fox Chapel team that had defeated them in the season opener, 4-0. The rematch was a more tightly contested affair thanks to a North Allegheny defense that was able to thwart an unrelenting Fox Chapel attack throughout the entire first half. Fox Chapel outshot North Allegheny, 15-3 on the night and dictated the pace of the game, but the Tigers managed to stymie the Foxes for a while thanks to the play of goalie Katie Shideler.2015 WPIAL GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY RESULTS

One of the shortest team tournaments in the WPIAL turned out to be a golden two rounds of success for the two #2-seeds. Both Fox Chapel in Class AAA and The Ellis School in Class AA upset the top seeds North Allegheny and Shady Side Academy in the district championship matches to win field hockey crowns. The title is the second for the Foxes in school history and first since 2012. Meanwhile the Tigers enjoy their sixth WPIAL field hockey championship and second straight golden stick.
