Big Game Hunting for Week Two 2012
September 5, 2012
Week One was a scorcher, we saw some big time upsets, some tremendous debuts, and some confirmations of things most of us suspected would be true for the 2012 campaign. One thing I think all of us non-head coaches can agree on, is that WPIAL realignment bringing us very meaningful games at the outset of the season is a huge success. Stay hydrated, week two looks just as hot in the big games department, here’s hoping the temps are a little more football-like as we go Big Game Hunting! AAAA - Northern 8 Conference

Scholastic Notebook – 08/31/2012
August 31, 2012
The storylines are many as the WPIAL football season kicks off tonight. But is there a storyline with more irony than the Springdale at West Shamokin game? There is the new guy taking over for one of the winningest coaches in WPIAL history, and his first game is against a team with a historical losing streak. Dave Leasure will be in his first game as Springdale’s head coach. He takes over for Chuck Wagner, who retired last season after 47 years as a high school head coach in the WPIAL (Oakmont, Riverview, Fox Chapel and Springdale high schools). Wagner retired with a record of 270-202-11, and the 270 wins are fourth on the all-time list.

CTK 2012 – WPIAL AA Interstate Conference Preview
August 21, 2012
Jeannette and Greensburg Central Catholic have been the dominant teams in the Interstate Conference over the past decade. Nine times in the past 10 years one of the teams has either won or tied for the conference title. But this could be the year that some new blood flows to the top of the conference. Jeannette is still expected to be strong, but Greensburg Central Catholic might drop a little. Coach Muzzy Colosimo stepped down as coach shortly before the start of preseason practices. Washington and Mount Pleasant could make some noise this year and challenge for the conference title. As for the make-up of the conference, there are only two changes. East Allegheny moved out, and Washington moved in.

One week before football training camps officially open around the WPIAL, a veteran coach has been replaced at a Class AA perennial power.  William 'Muzzy' Colosimo and Greensburg Central Catholic High School are parting ways after 17 years. It is not yet known if Colosimo was fired or if he resigned.Greensburg Central Catholic had a record of 143-46 under Colosimo with 15 winning seasons.Colosimo led the Centurions to their only football championship only three years ago when Greensburg Central Catholic beat Aliquippa in the 2009 Class AA championship game 33-7.
