Quietly, the Greater Allegheny Conference in Class AAA has become a primetime postseason player...at least in the First Round. A year ago, the four playoff teams (Mars, Knoch, Indiana and Highlands) in the GAC were a combined 3-1, giving the conference a 6-2 record in the opening round of the WPIAL playoffs the past two years.CTK 2011 – WPIAL Class AAA Players to Watch

2011 turns into the yeaqr of virgin winners. With Gateway beating Chartiers Valley in Class AAAA, Montour beating top-seed South Fayette in Class AAA and Vincentian Academy taking care of Lincoln Park in Class A, championship weekend sees three school lift the golden ball for the first time in school history.Shaler, Blackhawk, Seton-LaSalle and North Catholic Are Golden Girls in 2011 WPIAL Girls Basketball
Mount Lebanon and Jeannette entered championship weekend searching for more gold. The Blue Devils won WPIAL AAAA crowns in 2009 and 2010 while the Jayhawks captured AA gold last winter.
