Hopewell’s Rushel Shell has a chance to break the state career rushing record in Friday night’s WPIAL Quarterfinals against Franklin Regional. The drought is now five years since a WPIAL girls volleyball team has captured a PIAA championship...and Counting. 32 have exited the Highway to Heinz while 32 others are rambling on toward the round two exit. There were very few surprises in the First Round as only four double-digit seeds were victorious. #10 Hopewell in Class AAA, #13 Ellwood City in AA and a pair of #11-seeds - South Fayette in AA and Fort Cherry in A were able to keep their long-shot title hopes alive through the opening weekend.WPIAL Girls Volleyball Championship Recaps

The WPIAL football playoffs start Friday night and never before has the postseason picture looked so perfect.Although the WPIAL started crowning football champions in 1914, the league didn’t have playoff games until 1971.
