WPIAL Friday Night HighLights for 9/26
September 27, 2014
We hit the midway point of the 2014 WPIAL football regular season with points a plenty. Offenses around the district continue to amass record setting numbers with good solid defenses creeping closer to the endangered species list. Friday night saw 12 teams score over 50 points and five of those teams eclipsed the 60 point plateau. And that doesn't even include the traditional 70+ point total for Clairton. With those mind-numbing numbers, here are some of the top performers from the Fifth Friday of the season. Connor Slomka - Pine-Richland

It is a recurring storyline at Indiana High School. The Stapletons are staples of the football team. It has been the story in recent years at Indiana, and it is again this season. Two of the four Stapleton brothers had big impacts on the Little Indians’ opening-night upset victory against Mars last Friday. Riley Stapleton, a 6-5 senior receiver, caught seven passes for 95 yards and scored a touchdown. Dylan Stapleton, a 6-4 junior, caught five passes for 111 yards and scored two touchdowns.

CTK ’14: WPIAL AAA Greater Allegheny Conference Preview
August 15, 2014
The teams in the Greater Allegheny Conference will have something new to worry about this season. They hope to avoid the bite of the Gators. One of the major changes in the WPIAL football landscape this year is Gateway dropping down to Class AAA. Since Gateway opened in the mid 1950s, the Gators had always played in the largest classification. But the school’s enrollment allowed the team to drop from Class AAAA to AAA this season.

There was going to be a first time champ in WPIAL Division 2 boys lacrosse Friday and the Quaker Valley Quakers were the one. Quaker Valley defeated the Indiana Indiana 13-10 to earn the crown. At the outset of the game it seemed to be the a tighter game than the score would indicate. Indiana jumped out to the 1st lead in the game 1-0 when junior attack David Zimmerman tickled the twine with a hard shot. Quaker Valley was able to answer later in the 1st with a goal from Jared Vescio. Vescio better known through the game for his face off ability winning a majority of face offs also had a pair of goals. There are 10,000 reasons to like Lenny Williams at quarterback. Williams is a senior at Sto-Rox and it has been well-documented that he is the all-time leading passer in WPIAL history in yards and touchdowns. But what has been lost in the passing numbers and records is the fact that Williams now has over 10,000 yards offense. No other WPIAL player is known to have 10,000 yards offense in a career.Williams has 7,799 yards passing and his rushing yardage puts him over 10,000. Williams passed for more than 2,000 and ran for more than 1,000 last year. So far this season, he has thrown for 2,050 yards and rushed for 347.

CTK 2013 – WPIAL Triple-A Greater Allegheny Conference Preview
August 17, 2013
Will the Greater Allegheny be as defensive again? Last year was the first season of the “new” Greater Allegheny, where nine teams were in the conference, including a few that used to play in the old Keystone Conference. Although the conference featured some standout offensive players, it seemed defense was the cornerstone of a number of teams. Mars, Franklin Regional and Knoch gave up less than 100 points in conference games. No other conference in Class AAA had three teams give up less than 100 points in conference games.Points could be hard to come by again in 2013. The main reason is some teams lost some key offensive players (except Mars).
