Another postseason tournament starts this weekend for the New Castle boys basketball team and the Red Hurricanes. While New Castle has achieved a number of historical feats the past few seasons, the start of the PIAA playoffs means New Castle will take another shot at joining a most special group. But to become a member, New Castle will have to look just perfect. For the third year in a row, New Castle will take a perfect record into the PIAA tournament after winning a WPIAL title with an undefeated record.

Moon’s running game went from Colaianni to Cole, and now everything is cool with the Tigers on the ground.Moon is in the WPIAL football playoffs this season for the first time since 2006, and one of the main reasons for the turnaround is Cole Blake, a senior running back who is the fifth-leading rusher in the WPIAL heading into the playoffs.Blake has made a name for himself, rushing for 1,457 yards. He set a school record with 342 yards in one game. But Blake’s story is interesting in that he only got a chance to be the featured back this year because of an injury. Suffice to say, Blake has run with that chance.

Welcome to Week 9. After nearly a decade of dominating fantasy football leagues, Chick’s Picks decided to throw her hat into fantasy hockey, hoping for at least a bit of a challenge.  While her league mates spent weeks researching and preparing for the draft, Chick’s Picks sat back and chuckled, knowing her prized crystal ball was the only research she needed.Draft day was finally here.  Chick’s Picks packed up her crystal ball and headed to meet the gang at league headquarters.  It was no surprise to see the gaggle of league mates in line awaiting her autograph when she arrived.  Chick’s Picks is, after all, kind of a big deal around the WPIAL.

CTK 2013 – WPIAL Double-A Allegheny Conference Preview

The Allegheny Conference of Class AA has seen its share of balance recently. Over the past four seasons, four different teams have won at least a share of the conference title.While many are picking Shady Side Academy as the team to beat this year, balance seems to permeate through the section again.A number of teams seem capable of grabbing one of the WPIAL playoff spots. One thing the teams in the conference would like to do is improve their playoff fortunes. The selections were made by members of the MSA Sports Network broadcast team and features four WPIAL champions and one PIAA titlist. 2013 WPIAL Wrestling Fabulous 14

Another great year is in the books for the 2012-2013 high school wrestling season. The WPIAL provided a lot of excitement throughout the year, but it was Canon-McMillan in Class AAA and Burrell in AA that continued to rewrite history. Canon-McMillan not only won its record fourth consecutive WPIAL Class AAA team championship, but the Big Macs also won their second straight PIAA dual meet team championship and third straight PIAA individual tournament team championship. Burrell, meanwhile, continued its dominance of Class AA, with a record seventh straight WPIAL dual meet team championship.
