Trib HSSN boys basketball player of the week: Bobby Fadden

School: Mohawk

Class: Sophomore

Height: 6-foot-1

Position: Guard

What coach says: “We had a rough first half as a team putting the ball in the hoop against Yough,” Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare said. “Bobby made a play at the end of the first half that really sparked our team, and it started on the defensive end of the floor. He was closing in on 1,000 points during the game, and he never let that affect how he played. He was just making winning plays in the second half.

“Bobby wants to win first, his compete level is very high. He has the ability to make plays when we need them, and he is one of our top defenders. I know it is a trendy thing right now, and probably used way too much, to say guys can score at all three levels, but I think of Bobby as a ‘maker.’ He is the first one in the gym every day, putting in extra work, and that extra work has paid off for him and our team.”

#Earned: Fadden has been lights out for No. 2 Mohawk in the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs, scoring 53 points in two postseason victories. In the first round last Monday, Fadden scored 25 points as the Warriors rolled past McGuffey, 74-39. In a semifinal clash Thursday against Yough and Terek Crosby, Fadden shined again, scoring 28 points as the Warriors defeated the Cougars, 54-48, earning Mohawk a spot in the 3A semifinals Monday against No. 11 Burrell.

Background: Fadden finished in the top 15 in scoring in the WPIAL this season, averaging more than 22 points per game. He is 60 points away from 600 points scored for the season. His postseason play has helped Mohawk’s boys basketball team reach the district semifinals for the first time since 1970. Fadden was the leading receiver and top scorer for the Warriors’ football team this past fall. He had 43 receptions for 675 yards and scored 17 touchdowns and even completed 3 of 3 passes for 37 yards and a touchdown as Mohawk reached the district semifinals. He also enjoys golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing.
