Butler High School is in search of a new football coach…again. After one year as the head coach of the Golden Tornado football program, Jim Rankin has resigned citing family reasons for his decisions.
Rankin lives in Brighton Heights and said the job was more difficult to handle than anticipated. Rankin's 9 year old grandson also lives with him.
Butler went 0-9 this past season marking the second consecutive winless campaign and third time in four years they have not won a single game. The Golden Tornado have lost 23 straight games, the second longest current losing streak in the WPIAL behind West Shamokin's 34-game losing streak.
Butler's last win was September 19th, 2008 when they beat Canon-McMillan 18-0. The last section victory for the Golden Tornado came when they beat Seneca Valley 14-0 on October 27th, 2006.
The last time Butler qualifed for the WPIAL playoffs was 1998 and the last time they enjoyed a winning overall record was 1997 when they finished 6-4.
Butler will now look to hire their fourth coach in the last six years.
