The Quaker Valley football team and every other WPIAL playoff qualifier in the six classifications will find out their first-round fates as the brackets are revealed Monday at 7 p.m.

The Quakers finished the regular season 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the 3A Tri-County West Conference. Central Valley also finished 5-2 in conference play, and they upset Aliquippa on Friday.

However, QV earns the No. 3 seed from the conference behind Aliquippa and Beaver Falls based on its head-to-head win over Central Valley.

Four teams from each of the two conferences in 3A will enter the playoffs. The Quakers most likely will begin the playoffs on the road.

The championship game will be at Heinz Field on Nov. 17.

QV boys soccer set for semifinals

The top-seeded Quaker Valley boys soccer team is one win away from the WPIAL Class AA championship game.

But before the 17-3 Quakers can think about heading to Highmark Stadium, they have to take care of business Monday at 6 p.m. against No. 4 Charleroi in the semifinals at Moon High School.

QV opened the playoffs with a 6-1 win over Freeport before stopping No. 8 Mt. Pleasant 4-1. Charleroi breezed past Elizabeth Forward 6-1 and shut out No. 5 South Park 4-0.

The winner not only will advance to the championship game but will clinch a spot in the PIAA playoffs.

Hockey teams back in action

Both the Quaker Valley and Sewickley Academy hockey teams are in action Monday evening.

The Panthers will face Montour in a Varsity A matchup at Robert Morris University’s Colonials Arena at 8:35 p.m., while the Quakers take on Hampton in Varsity AA at 7 p.m. at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale.

Sewickley Academy is 2-2 overall, tied for fourth place with North Hills in the Varsity A North Division. North Hills edged the Panthers 3-2 on Oct. 22.

Quaker Valley is off to a 1-3 start and sits tied for fifth in the North/West Division of Varsity AA. The Quakers are hoping to shake off last Thursday’s 8-1 loss to Mars.
