The WPIAL canceled Freeport transfer Harley Holloway’s eligibility hearing and declared the basketball standout eligible Monday after her previous school withdrew its objection.
Kiski Area initially contested the junior’s transfer as athletically motivated but recently reconsidered, WPIAL executive director Tim O’Malley said.
“Upon further review and consultation with more people, Kiski Area became aware that (other) circumstances led to the transfer,” O’Malley said. “The paperwork arrived Monday, signed-off by both principals, so she’s eligible.”
The transfer paperwork was initiated before new PIAA transfer rules enacted Aug. 6, so Holloway is also eligible for the postseason.
A 5-foot-7 guard, Holloway scored a team-high 17.6 points per game as a sophomore. The standout perimeter shooter made 42 percent of 3-point attempts and earned first-team all-section honors in Class 5A.
Holloway previously attended the Freeport district before switching to Kiski Area for high school.
