WPIAL Swimming Championships – Class AA Day Two Results

A snow storm hit Western Pennsylvania on Saturday morning but that didn’t stop the participants in the Boys and Girls WPIAL AA Swimming Championships  at the University of Pittsburgh. In front of a packed house at Joseph C. Trees Pool the second day of the championships were held.

Continuing with their start on Friday the Shady Side Academy Girls and the Quaker Valley boys were up to the challenge and held on to their leads to each win a WPIAL team championship. Shady Side who only led by 18 points coming into the day won going away with a dominant performance beating Derry by 92 points, 288-196. Their win in the Girls 400 yard freestyle relay capped off the afternoon.

Quaker Valley had a 22.5 point lead over Laurel Highlands entering Saturday. They ended the day setting a new WPIAL record in the boys 400 yard freestyle relay. Beating a 5 year old record the Quakers posted a 3:12.62 to put an emphasis on their title.  The Quakers beat out 2nd place West Allegheny by a score of  275- 215.5                     .

Only one other new WPIAL record was set in the AA portion of the event. In the first event of the morning Emily Zimcosky of Geibel beat her record she set last year by  2/10th’s of a second with a 50.52 in the Girls 100 yard Freestyle. She had previously set a new WPIAL record yesterday in the 50 yard freestyle.
