One team was playing for playoff positioning and a chance to finish as high as third place instead of sixth place while the other was home for one final game playing for pride and bragging rights against an arch-rival. That was the setup for the final Saturday of the 2012 WPIAL football regular season and the lightest day of the season with only two games on the docket. But that didn't slow down these two players from shining bright on a dreary afternoon.

Patrick Frey – Trinity

In a game that was slated to be played on a comfortable night under idea like weather conditions was forced back 18 hours because of a water main break under chilly, windy and rainy conditions with playoff order at stake in the Class AAA Big Nine Conference. Trailing 21-7 in the third quarter, Trinity junior running back Patrick Frey helped begin a comeback with a 2-yard run, one of his 31 carries that netted him 153 yards on the afternoon as the Hillers held off the host Ringgold Rams 31-30 in double overtime to avoid sixth place and finish all the way up to third place and enhance their playoff positioning in the upcoming Class AAA tournament.

Zach Perry – Western Beaver

Senior day is always a nice time to put that big ole exclamation point on your career at a school after being honored before the contest. that's exactly what Zach Perry went out and did in a battle of Beaver County rivals with no playoff implications in the chilly air. Perry put on a prime time performance though, rushing for 191 yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns in his final game as the Golden Beavers end with two straight wins after a 20-15 victory over the South Side Rams in a Class A Big 7 Conference finale.
