Hard-throwing Jarett Bach weighed the pros and cons of seven Division I baseball scholarship offers. But the incoming senior at Yough went with the hometown team, the right fit. Or is that “left” fit?

Bach, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound left-handed pitcher, gave a verbal commitment Monday to Pitt.

“They have one of the best pitching coaches in the country, play in the ACC, and just got a new head coach (Mike Bell) who happens to be a (former) lefty pitcher as well,” Bach said, “so it was just a great fit all around.”

Bach also considered offers from Kent State, William & Mary, George Mason, Youngstown State, Penn State, and Maryland-Baltimore County.

He is glad to be able to make his decision well before his senior season, in the spring.

“Pitt was a great fit for me both academically and athletically,” Bach said. “It was hard since I had a lot of good schools to pick from, but after talking with my family yesterday I knew I wanted to go to Pitt. So I figured there was no reason to wait.”

Bach was one of the WPIAL’s top strikeout pitchers last season, fanning 77 in 42 innings. He had a 3-3 record with a 1.66 ERA and a WHIP of 0.90.

Bach’s sister, Hannah, will be a freshman softball player at Pitt in the fall.
